Sameer's Dad's real reason against marriage

I feel that Anatara's condition is just an excuse for cancelling the marriage. When Antara's doc came and told him that it is not an illness but a state of the mind and Vidya also told him that if it was hereditary then Abhishek would also have been autistic. But then also he didn't listen to them.Nothing could change his decision and he was quite stubborn regarding it. The real reason behind this , as I feel , is that from the very first he was not liking this relationship of his son because Aarti is not from a well-to-do family but uptill now he was quiet because of his son but now he has got an excuse in Antara to call-off the marriage and he is sticking to it like anything. 😡

It's probably part of the whole package. First, the family is not well off, and a brother getting his sister married is not the same as parents doing it, at least that is what Sam's father thinks.

Then there is the issue of morals--in the father's eyes, Aarti is of dubious morals for falling in love with a boy. Then Aditya comes across as a philanderer. And finally, his love child has a genetic condition, which Aarti might carry in her genes too. People are very sensitive about potential for genetic problems, and in many arranged marriages, will reject rishtas with families where there are huge medical or genetic issues.

It's possible that the autism came from Anuradha. We will never know till they decide whether to make Vidya's unborn kid 'normal' or not.

But in the meantime, Sam's father is awful, and I can't see anything good in him. Moneygrubbing, judgmental old meanie.

I think Antara's autism is definitely a factor. But, the fact that Aditya fathered an illegitimate child and the child is living with his family is also a huge deterrent to samir's dad. In an orthodox Indian society these sort of scandals are hard to live down, especially with a future daughter-in-law's direct family.

i kinda agree...basically sameer's dad is one of those ppl who think that now that they a SON who is doing well for himself they are equivalent to india's president and should be treated with the same respect. and from the beginning due to circumstances aditya has ended up doing some small things that hinted at the fact that showed that aditya has not been treating them with kid gloves like not showing eagerness to fix the wedding date etc. that is aditya doesnt think sameer or his parents are god's gift to mankind.
moreover weddings are also treated as an occasion to show off the status of the bride and groom. the attempt is try to show that u belong to a social strata higher than you actually. i wudnt be surprised if sameer's parents are less well off than aditya too. but his dad wanted to show off to his friends and relatives how well to do they are. hence he kept making all those demands...not because he is greedy but because he has a huge ego which needs to be massaged. im sure even if arti wudnt have been sameer's choice but theirs he wud have behaved in the same manner. in fact if it were not for sameer he wud have broken off the relationship long back. so the whole autism thing gave him a strong reason to back out which the rest of the society wud buy.
