ANALYSIS FROM A NEWSPAPER

Apart from providing entertainment, if anything, Indian television is definitely strengthening stereotypes.
Whether it is subjugation of women, the idea of the 'perfect' housewife, non-existent heroes or even the ghunghat clad bahu brigade ?TV has successfully played its role in all these areas. House confined bahus and betis, without any individuality, face all the acts of their family members by being mere voiceless entities. Idealism on Indian television today has being reset at a high altitude. It's no surprise then that after one set of stereotypes from the Tulsi-Pravati era, which seems long gone, comes another that seems to have flooded the idiot box.
Ghunghat ki aad se: Flipping through channels at any point in time, one will definitely come across women with loads of sindoor, heavy saris and ghunghats firmly placed on their heads. So much so, for the uninitiated, the shows might all appear to be the same. Balika Vadhu, Uttaran, Sapna Babul Ka Bidaai, Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai, Choti Bahu, and Pratigya ? the list just goes on and on. If one were to see the heroines without their mandatory ghunghats, then recognising them would be a tall order.
Bad's better: Maybe it's just the way the characters are written, but bad is certainly better on the idiot box. If the lead actors are mere caricatures who have to shed tears by the buckets, then the villains who actually make for better viewing. Ammaji is the prime focus in Laado..., who is Sia anyway? Archana's mother-in-law hogs the limelight in Pavitra Rishta while the daughter-in-law is somewhere around, crying may be. Loha Singh in Agle Janam Mohe Bitiya Hi Kijo evokes more interest than the hero, Shekhar. Need we say more?
Hero? Where's he?: Ever since the saga of soaps on Indian television began, it's the heroine who has been the hero in the true sense. Though there is a male lead to fill in the blanks, it's his female counterpart who has the meatier parts in the show. Why do guys get the raw deal? How many of you actually remember characters like Alekh, Ranvir (Sapna Babul Ka Bidaai), Naitik (Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai), Sooryakamal (Do Hanso Ka Joda), Shekhar (Agle Janam Mohe Bitiya Hi Kijo), Karan (Yahan Main Ghar Ghar Kheli), Manav (Pavitra Rishta), Abhi (12/24 Karol Bagh), Vinay (Bhagyavidhaata), Raghav (Na Ana Is Des Mere Laado). Chances are they'll probably be relegated to being romantic props...
High point weddings: If there is to be a major twist in the drama, what better way to introduce one than by planning an elaborate wedding sequence? Indian television is not done with excesses. A major change in the protagonist's life happens only during wedding sequences. Ichcha and Tapasya's lives turn topsy turvy at the wedding. Manav and Archana are separated just as their shaadi is complete. A double murder takes place in Agle Janam during Ratna's nuptial are just a few examples. The trend that started with Mihir's much-talked about return in Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi during Tulsi and Anupam's wedding, is still continuing today.
Socially relevant: All shows begin with a bang by saying they are socially relevant ?child marriage, female infanticide, intercast marriages, colour prejudices etc. But seven to eight months later, the storyline is anything but what it started off being. Jyoti started off as a story of a middle class girl being the sole breadwinner of the family. What she is doing right now is anyone's guess. Instead of fighting child marriages, Balika Vadhu is focusing on an old flame. Surrogate motherhood in Agle Janam is replaced by a murder mystery. Ample examples on the telly will prove that a few twists and turns later, the storyline becomes same old stuff you've seen before.
Is it any wonder then that the remote control has often been termed as a lifesaver?

It would seem that even the media is tired of this self sacrificing attitudes of the TV serial bahu's and beti's....So my question is why do they still insist on creating this type of woman? Are we not in the new mellinium? As far as I can tell this is not the days of Akhbar or Shah Jahan....
Move forward writers set an example for the society and showcase the new generation and look into the future....There are no more sindoor clad women who are constantly under house arrest or even self sacrificing for the sake of family.....Women are more versatile and more intelligent than those that are being potrayed....The women that are shown on TV serials are shown to think that ONLY their sacrifice is going to save the family and that is the dumbest thinking attitude.....
Please change the stereotypical characters and show a woman who can use her brains and outwit the loose characters like Rajeev Bhalla......

House confined bahus and betis, without any individuality, face all the acts of their family members by being mere voiceless entities.

In this show Manju, Simi(always at home other than in college), Neetu and Anita.

Flipping through channels at any point in time, one will definitely come across women with loads of sindoor, heavy saris and ghunghats firmly placed on their heads. So much so, for the uninitiated, the shows might all appear to be the same.

Anita and Neetu

the lead actors are mere caricatures who have to shed tears by the buckets, then the villains who actually make for better viewing.

Simi all the while with buckets of tears and Rajeev Bhalla the amusing villain

Ever since the saga of soaps on Indian television began, it's the heroine who has been the hero in the true sense.

Simi Sethi

Though there is a male lead to fill in the blanks, it's his female counterpart who has the meatier parts in the show. ?

Answer is already given'. How many of you actually remember characters like Abhi 12/24 Karol Bagh

High point weddings

Mahaepisode 'high point bollywood drama far from reality

A major change in the protagonist's life happens only during wedding sequences.

Simi declares private phera session with Abhi

All shows begin with a bang by saying they are socially relevant

Love story of 30 year old Simi and 22 year old Abhi

Neetu unwed pregnancy

Middle class lifestyle and day to day issues

Anuj falling for Anita from a high soci-economic background

But seven to eight months later, the storyline is anything but what it started off being.

Its hatching and plotting against family members.

Anita against Sthi family , Simbhi with Abhi being own brother and surprise by joining hands with cheapster like Bhalla.

Neetu wanting to ruin own sister's life.

Nakul trying to keep Omi away from property.

that a few twists and turns later, the storyline becomes same old stuff you've seen before.

About the kinds of saas-bahu saga, loads of make up, backbiting, plotting, hatred, one superwoman(heroine's) sacrifice and husbands as mere decorations.

Mesimi,
That was beautifully analysed...Now I am sure even the most unpad gawar can understand our concerns and how the article relates to our thinking....The writers being educated should not have a problem with this at all now......Thanks Mesimi for putting it all in prespective👏

Dearest CV's
12/24 KB started out as the best serial on TV period. It attracted viewers from all walks of life with it's innovative storylines, incredible dialogues, and great characters. As of late the show has become hum drum and run of the mill. Even predictable. You have an opportunity to salvage this sinking ship. Please, bring back the magic that drew fans to the show in the first place, the Simbhi romance. Yes, the show will have drama but give Simbhi a chance to have a normal, uninterrupted, mobile free, drama free romantic moment.
Please, do not introduce anymore new characters to the show. Instead, flesh out the ones you already have. I really want to see a proper reintroduction or ending to Vicky's character. Manit's ability to emote with his eyes is only second to Neil's. He definitely deserved more screen time. You will be kicking yourself one day when his star grows.
RB's character keeps me in stitches. He is definitley on point to be Villian of the Year. Indrash's ability to be evil and funny at the same time is award worthy.
Another thing that you are doing right is the music. The songs selected seem tailor made for Simbhi. They are played at just the right time. Even the theme song is upbeat and fits the show well
Neil Bhatt, the shows saving grace. Neil has done a fabulous job bringing Abhi to life. His ability to emote with his eyes is in a class by itself. Neil is on par to be the next big Bollywood Superstar. We've seen him dancing on Boogie Woogie, Youtube, the Zee Rishtey Awards. So when are we going to see him dancing on KB? How about a dream dance segment with Smirti? The two of them have incredible chemistry. However, the fire has died down due to the current storyline. It's time for the Simbhi romance to return. The two could melt the screen just looking into each others eyes. Now they seem like an old married couple, instead of newlyweds.
Last but certainly not least. Please, bring back Abhi's burgundy jeep. It was a symbol of happiness, and freedom rolled into one.
In closing I hope you take all of our comments to heart and make needed improvements to the script. Now get back to work. 😃😃
Continued Success to You and Yours

Lets see how much they are reading and how much our voice counts... If they are listening and our opinion does matter than we will not only get a comment posted here but also see a difference on the show.

Daboo If that is true than I just have few suggestions for the Writers . You are very fortunate to have such strong opinions regarding your show because this shows the loyalty & writing the praises for your prodigious efforts for being different and daring about it which is commendable so why change. These loyal viewers are not giving up and are trying the best way they know how to elucidate the very lengthy directions your show has taken so wake up and read these posts. And then read other posts you will not find this loyalty in any other post. Don't let it get to your head. The way to get there is long but the first step has to come from the creative's. Your debility right now and the current direction of the story can be revived with the critiques right here. Pay attention to these and create your magic and again let Karol Bagh be the most talked about show and the show your viewers can't have enough of. Don't let our DVDs' rest and if the show is great and fabulous we will not let them rest with the rewind button
So look at these and read these posts as our gift to you all and work on these suggestions and then execute and implement them. These are not free suggestions. They come with a fee for you to pay by creating the new and improved show for all of us the silent and the active forum viewers.

Thanks for this Thread !!

You all have covered it beautifully

Creative writers please pay close attention to what as a viewer we wish to see in the storyline .. There is soo much information we have provided here and to the best we feel the characters can be given full justice..
So i urge you to look at what we want and what you just feel like showing not knowing the positive or negative impact it has..
Please do consider this an important issue and work on it
