Chapter 4

The sky was peculiarly darker that day, as though some mad artist had painted it. it was way intense and there was not a sign of any kind of cloud. The sky was clear and sombre, unlike her mind.

She let out a deep wondering sigh, a havoc running through her mind. Memories of the previous night were spinning in her head, warm and bright, just like the sunlight which hit her skin, spoiling her milky complexion.

But she didn't care about any of that now, her head was filled with him, the way he smiled, giggled, smirked and when he looked at her with those bottle green eyes, as though smiling through them, his eyes reflected a simple personality within his own self. His eyes had a natural twinkle and a gentle pleasure, a very subtle hint of pleasure.

She liked that, she decided. Previous nights conversation replayed in her head, it was when he was about to fell asleep and she was wide awake. Wondering. His arm was across her belly, holding her possessively and his face buried in the curve of her neck, snuggling.

"Reyaansh" she said

"Hmm?" was his reply

"Awake?" she asked

She could feel him nodding.

"I don't really think what we did was right. I mean, morally" she said.

"Why can't we talk about this tomorrow?" he murmured carelessly

She looked at him, not smiling, a loss of expression on her face "I think you should go back to sleep" she softly said as the realization hit her that maybe, he couldn't care less about what she felt and what she was thinking. And she almost felt broken

He had never answered whether what they did what right or not. And that pricked her, she couldn't understand whether what she had been doing was right or wrong. Her head almost ached, asking for some tablets of disprins. But she denied to take any of that, for now she had come to a conclusion that"

It was a sudden vibration which ran through her body and startled her, only to find out later that it was her cell phone.

It was from the office's reception, she picked it up hastily "Madam" the receptionist said

"Yes? Did he come?" she asked

"Yes, Mr Singhania, just arrived" he said.

"Thankyou, I'll be there in a while" she hung up.

Nothing was going right, the headache today was terrible. Terrible. And she was wondering how to get rid of it, maybe it happened due to a lack of sleep?

she drank some water and then catching the earliest bus, she hurried back to her office.

He sank deeper into the leather chair, he was thinking, about everything that has been happening. "You're one temptingly amazing man" her words were spinning in his head "And one of the most gorgeous men I've discovered so far"

Her voice was smooth, almost luring. She had pale grey eyes and somehow he couldn't figure out what they reflected. There was always something else. Guilt, passion, affection, hatred. She had big eyes, almost almond shaped, and they tend to talk to you. there was a spark within them, a raise of light.

He picked up a file from the table, and began reading it, only to find out that it wasn't possible. His thoughts were badly affected by her, it was like, he felt weird, "One temptingly amazing man" he couldn't believe that he was being affected by something as little as her voice.

The memories spent with her approached him, the moment when she had kissed him "This is something no one else could do"

"Damn you Kriya" he spoke to himself "What are you doing to me?"

Hhe closed his eyes, and surprisingly, his eyelids felt heavy, and his arms weak, he needed rest. He decided.

It was then the door flung open, and she walked in, she was covered in a black dress which ended above her knees, her face had absolutely no makeup, and he could easily see the dark circles down her eyes. And it was that moment when his eyes fell on hers.

Her eyes reflected regret. and he wanted to get damned for it. he thought she liked last night, he wasn't desperate for it, neither was he demanding any more of her.

Lately, he had discovered his affection towards her, which seemed genuine.

For a moment their eyes met, but then she looked away "We need to talk" she declared

"There's nothing to talk about" he shrugged his shoulders

"But there is! What happened was not right Mr Singhania, you are my damn boss" she said

He was just staring at her. "I'm friendly with you, I spend my time with you. but that does not mean that I'm ready to sleep with you" she snapped

He was just staring at her; he was at a loss of words. Maybe, he realized, this was the first time he had wanted a woman so much. Yes, he had slept with alot of women, but he could hardly remember their names.

This was different. She was different.

"What's wrong with you?" he murmured to himself.

Her face softened "There's nothing wrong with me, Mr Singhania" she breathed out "Last night, last night was not right, I did think about it before and.." she ran out of words.

"Forget it, It was my fault, I shouldn't have asked you to-" before she could complete he spoke.

"Why don't you get it? Its no one's fault." He threw his hands helplessly in the air

He was walking close to her, "It's not you Miss Ghai, its not me either. Whatever happened last night was no one's fault. We are two adults and we are capable of taking decisions."

"I regret mine" she softly said as his eyes bored into hers.

He took a deep sigh, and closed his eyes, "Do you know how repulsive it is, to be touched by a guy you don't like?"

A guy you don't like. Her words rang in her ears.

"I want you to maintain distance. There should be atleast 2 meter distance between us" she said

"That's senile." He hushed.

"I don't care. and by the way, I'm taking a day off today" she declared, leaving his office.

"Look, Ryan, he will easily know if I plug a gun in his bathroom" she said sipping her brew.

"So, what should we do? You're telling me that this guy is the absolute smartypants, so practically, I don't see any chance of killing him" Ryan said

"We don't have to kill him" she hushed.

"Whatever" he said "let me think"

She sat there, none of her senses working well. "why don't you get it? it's no one's fault" her mind kept processing those nine words, spinning them in her mind like a race track.

She inhaled, then held her breath. Exhale. She told herself.

"Maybe we could do this" it was Ryans sudden electric voice that alerted her. "Let me do a short circuit at yours and his place"

"Yeah?" she said

"And then when he's in darkness searching for candles, I'll stab him, or use he gun or whatever" he said

"I don't want to kill him" she said "I was here to teach him a lesson"

"I don't give a damn" Ryan said

"Look." Kriya started "You do, whatever you wish, and let me continue with my plan"

A plan which was basically nothing, she thought

She shot up from her chair, kept some bills on the table and spoke "You know what, we're not together anymore. You don't need to bother yourself by helping me"

And she left the cafe.

She was at home the entire evening. Cooking herself meals, watching serials, reading novels

But whatever she did, he was always there. playing poker in her head, calling her verb, holding her close, teasing her, stroking her, she wanted to push it all out, but there was no way she could do that there was nothing she could do. Except for maintaining a distance from him. Maybe, not being that frank with him.

She didn't know. But now, the only option was to maintain distance. Which she possibly knew how to do.

The door creaked, and he stepped in, loosening her tie, she turned to look at him, he was in his regular tuxedo, black coat, black pants, grey tie and white snowy shirt.

She had this desire, to go wrap her hands around him, hold him close like her incomplete puzzle piece. But right now, she knew her desires could be dangerous.

"Good evening" she hushed, her smile was non existent, but so was his.

"Good evening" he hushed, looking at her, studying her expressions carefully.

She was dressed in a tank top and shorts, which was her usual outfit. He had told her numerous times, not to wear those, but she won't just listen. Her wavy hair, with gentle curls in the end, she had not bunched them up in a bun, instead they were making their way down her spine.

Why did she have a Barbie-like sleek figure? He wondered.

"You want to order food? I don't think there's any of it in the fridge" he said

"That won't be necessary" she said her hair doing slight flip flops as she moved in the kitchen, facing the stove "I've cooked. Freshen up and come for dinner"

He made his way in his room, getting that hell of coat out. He needed to get her out of his system, it was just natural lust, he decided, and it would fade away in some numbered days.

But maybe, the truth wasn't quite that.

______________________________________________

He was kissing her, gentle pressure of his lips on the curve of her neck, it seemed as though he was moulding her over again, his hands massaging her, moving around her body, holding her close to him, with nothing as a barrier, her mind was crystal clear of all the doubts, her hands holding his tough muscles, running her hands through his abs.

While he suddenly staring in her eyes and saying, his voice, a gently hush, "You're beautiful, Verb"

She woke up in cold sweat, breathing heavily. It was these dreams that kept haunting her, troubling her, reminding her of him, she scanned the room and scanned herself, she was in her night wear, the usual night suit she wore.

She closed her eyes and inhaled, remembering the time when she first met him.

__________________________________________

The previous weeks, were pretty much silent, there were absolutely no conversation between the two except for some regular professional talks. She had made it pretty clear to her that he was nothing more than a boss to her, yet, why did she feel discontent? Why was she having such dreams on daily basis, where she could imagine a thousand scenarios where he loved her? she did not understand.

She was working on a new plan, her motives were clear in her head, though at times, her head kept speaking something else. But now she knew, he was her enemy, nothing more than that.

Her plan was simple, though it needed a lot of planning and plotting. She had hopes, that this time, she might come up with something useful, though lastly she had failed two to three times.

Maybe ditching Ryan wasn't the best decision ever, she thought.

Her mind was a cold freeze with thoughts and questions that filled her head, while she sat in the car looking out of window.

"I have my meeting at eleven, I need all the files on my table, Kriya" his tone was sharp.

She nodded then said "You used to call me Verb"

His mind swelled up with emotions as she spoke, he wanted to tell her that he still wanted to call her that, he still wanted her to be back as his old duckface, sarcastic, fun and weird.

Memories filled up his head, right when he had first seen her, all drenched in rain, when she kissed him, when she fought with him. but now they were just memories, simple, plain and old.

"Things change, Kriya" he said, she was looking at him, with her round observant eyes, as though capturing his every move, somehow she had managed to get all the emotions back, and for a moment, he could just question himself and ask, were they gone? The answer was simple, no.

She then gave her head a harness shake and continued to look outside the window, yes, she was done talking.
