Chapter 40

Priya meets Manisha at a restaurant. Priya sits down.

Priya: why did you call me here? (Manisha looks at Priya) why do you look so sad? What's wrong?

Manisha: Priya I think - I think - I think Anurag is cheating on me?

Priya: (surprised) what? How? Why?

Manisha: I was with him yesterday, when he went to the bathroom; he left his phone on the table. Then this girl called him, before I could say hello, she said 'Anurag baby please come. You're already late. It's 6:15. I don't like it when you're late. I won't be able to stop myself and that won't be good for you or your girlfriend. Ok honey, hurry up. Bye'

Priya: (laughing) paagal. That might have just been a very sweet friend. Tum be.

Manisha: I know, but he always leaves at six and she said he was late.

Priya: you got a point there. What are you going to do?

Manisha: that's why I called you. I got an idea (looking at her watch) It's about to turn six. You just go to his house and follow him and find out if he's cheating or not.

Priya: Great idea.

Manisha: But the only thing is he might notice.

Priya: what are taxis for?

Manisha: You and taxi's. Ok go before he leaves.

Priya: (getting up) I'll call you after I'm done with the mission general. (Saluting)

Manisha: (laughing) go

Priya runs out almost bumping into everything as she leaves.

Priya arrives to Anurag's house and tell the ricksha driver to stand outside. Priya goes to ring the bell. Anurag comes rushing out.

Anurag: Priya, I have no time to talk. I'm getting late.

Priya: (walking with him to his car) for your six o'clock girlfriend.

Anurag: (confused) what? Never mind! (Getting into the car) Bye.

Priya: (walks to the taxi as Anurag drives out) follow that car.

Priya follows Anurag car to a club type restaurant. Anurag gets out of his car and runs in. Priya pays the driver and looks around.

Priya: where did he go?

Priya goes in and begins to look around. A guy is singing on stage as people listen to him and enjoy their meal. She finds no trace of Anurag. Priya sits down and wait for 5 minutes. But then gets up to call Manisha. As Priya gets up and turns, the announcer comes on.

Announcer: Put your hands together for one of our most famous singer, Anurag Kapoor.

Priya turns around in a quick flash and sees Anurag walking on the stage. Priya slowly grabs her seat and sits down. Anurag begins to sing Aadat from Kalyug.

Priya: (thinking) what is Anurag doing here? He doesn't like singing. So what is he doing up there singing.

Priya continues to watch Anurag. Anurag finishes his song and goes backstage. Priya follows him. Anurag is sitting on a chair with a towel over his face. Priya comes from behind and as her face gets parallel to his, she pulls the towel slowly.

Priya: Hi! (Anurag gets scared and falls of his chair. Picking him up) Are you ok?

Anurag: (pushing her away) what are you doing here?

Priya: (smiling) I could ask you the same question?

Anurag: (worried) oh god! Don't tell me you -

Priya: Yup. - I just don't get one thing. Why were you doing that? (Curious) Not saying it's bad or anything. You got a good voice. But you always gave the impression that you don't like singing. So why you doing it? Is it your new hobby? (Anurag gives an angry look) I'm just saying.

Anurag: I don't

Priya: Then?

Anurag: I'm doing it for Manisha

Priya: Manisha?

Anurag: remember the day you slept over. Manisha was talking about a gift she wanted that she saw in the mall. I when to ask my father for some money. But as usual he told me to earn it. So here I am.

Priya: (squeezing his cheek) ohhhhh that's so sweet.

Anurag: (moving her arm) don't call me cute.

Priya: I didn't - wait! You spied on us.

Anurag: (acting innocent) it wasn't me. It was Mitesh. He gave the idea.

Priya: Mitesh, ha I learn new thing about you guys everyday.

Anurag: Now you tell me what are you doing here.

Priya: Manisha thought you're cheating on her, so I'm here to find out the truth.

A guy comes out and tells Anurag he's next on stage.

Anurag: ok I have to go, we'll continue this later.

Anurag leaves and Priya walks to the front and sits down to hear Anurag sing. Priya begins to feel guilt to why she kissed him and that she still loves him even though he loves Manisha. Priya continues to think as Anurag finishes his song and walks off stage to Priya.

Anurag: so what's up?

Priya: nothing. So what else are you going to do for her anniversary?

Anurag: nothing.

Priya: so you're just going to give her the ring and say 'here happy anniversary'.

Anurag: yeah.

Priya: oh god Manisha was rights you not an Aashiq.

Anurag: what else is there to do?

Priya: it's your anniversary it has to be remembered for the rest of your life.

Anurag: more will come.

Priya: but it's her first.

Anurag: you girls and your first. First date. First Kiss. First love. Blah blah blah.

Priya: you're a creep. Anyways, let me think.

Anurag: wow you thinking that's a first. (Priya kicks him under the table) oww (Priya ignores him and begins to think). Anyways about what - hello - you even listening to me. All you girls have one problem, when a guy wants to talk you shut him off and when he doesn't you bug him to talk and all this stupid argument starts. You don't listen - I have so much to say - why don't you ever listen -

Priya: (cutting him off) listen you're going to sing a song and tell her you love her in -

Anurag: sure

Priya: fine it settled. The day after tomorrow you will sing a song in front of the whole restaurant and Manisha. You're also going to tell her you love her.

Anurag: no! You didn't say anything about a crowd.

Priya: that's you problem you don't listen.

Anurag: well anyways I won't

Priya: yea you will (grabbing her bag) I'm waiting outside.

Anurag: (watching her go, yelling) no I won't

Priya: trust me you will (she leaves)

Anurag smiles and goes inside to get his stuff. Anurag drops Priya home. Priya goes to Manisha's room.

Manisha: so what did you find out?

Priya: nothing I lost him after a red light.

Manisha: you could have called. I was worried. What are you doing home so late anyways?

Priya: I was with Arjun -

Arjun: (walking into the room) me? I was home all day.

Priya: (worried) yeh I mean - Arjun's - Arjun's friend - (yelling) Naina. Yup I was with Naina.

Manisha: ok why you are getting scared for.

Priya: me - scared -no

Arjun: (surprised) Anyways mom said it time to eat.

Everyone leaves to eat. Later on in the middle of the night, Mitesh comes to Manisha house and stays the night at their house.
