Part 1

Mannat is living with her mother, Jhanvi, in New York City & has been managing the city since Tej's death. One day, she gets a call.

Jhanvi: Yes, I know I have a lot of debt. I request you to extend my loan. My restaurant is centrally located, but there is tough competition. Please grant my request.

Financer: Fine.

Jhanvi: Thanks.

Jhanvi has been taking care of the house & Mannat single-handedly, never letting her know her troubles. Mannat enters home & says, "I am home."

Jhanvi: Where have you been?

Mannat: Central Park.

Jhanvi: Whom did you meet?

Mannat: My boyfriend.

Jhanvi laughs.

Mannat then finds the envelopes having various bills that must be paid.

She exclaimed, "Bills."

Mannat: Were you crying?

Jhanvi: Not at all. You were crying.

Mannat: No way.

Mannat then finds the envelope from one of the marriage bureaus.

Mannat: Marriage Bureau! Why did this come?

Jhanvi: Ask your grandmother. She is finding a boy for you.

Mannat: But I don't want to marry. Why doesn't she leave me alone?

Jhanvi laughs: And why don't you leave the house?

Next Scene:

The boys are playing basketball. Suddenly, Dadi and her friends are singing "Preetam aan milo..."

Mannat enters. She meets dadi & starts screaming.

Dadi: You have disrupted my prayer. It is an insult to Goddess Saraswathi.

Mannat: Is this the prayer? You have scared everyone.

She then shows the pics of 3 boys & asks, "What is all this?"

Dadi sees the pics & is very happy. She said, "Choose any of them."

Mannat: I choose none as I don't want to get married.

Dadi: OMG, then how will you get kids?

Mannat: I can quickly get them. I don't have to get married for that. There are ways to get them.

Mannat has a younger brother named Sahil, who is physically disabled but watches basketball matches & is as annoying as others. A sister named Munni plays with toys.

Mannat goes to Sahil & yells at him. She said, "You watch basketball all the time. Give time to your studies.

She puts off the TV.

Dadi enters the house.

Munni: Good morning, dadi.

Dadi ignores her.

Dadi hated Munni as she was the adopted daughter. She never considered Munni as her own.

There were always differences between Jhanvi & Dadi as Jhanvi worshipped Jesus despite being a Hindu, whereas dadi was a staunch believer of Guru Nanak. 

Everyone goes to the dining table and has dinner. Jhanvi is serving dinner to everyone.

Dadi: What type of food is it?

Jhanvi: Fruit & cereal.

Dadi: What?

Jhanvi: Nothing.

Sahil: It is fruit & cereal.

Dadi: Which serial? Is it Kahani ghar ghar ki?

Sahil: No, it is eating cereal.

Dadi: I get it every day. My DIL does not know how to prepare Indian food. I miss Chandigarh a lot.

Jhanvi: Why don't you go there?

Dadi: I'm not going anywhere. If I go, who will take care of little children?

Jhanvi: You are only concerned about Sahil. Not Munni. But I love both of them equally.

Dadi: Why will you care for me? If my son were alive, it would have made an enormous difference.

Mannat: Stop it. 

She gives the money to Sahil & leaves.

Mannat used to begin her day on a disastrous note, starting at home. She was meeting her neighbor, named Sweety who was annoying her with rubbish talk.

 On leaving the house, she meets Sweety. Both of them go to a restaurant. 

Sweety said after they sat on the sofa, "I have found a match."

Mannat: What details have you filled in the form?

Sweety: I wrote all the facts. I look like Aishwarya Rai.

Mannat: All lies! You are so fat, and you think you are gorgeous!

Suddenly, Sweety sees a boy and tells Mannat, "Look how handsome he is!"

Mannat: Don't you have any other topic? Always boys, boys, and boys? 

Sweety: I think you need help.

Mannat: It is not me. It is you who need help. You will marry, have kids, and the guy will leave you. Then what will you do?

Sweety: I will remarry. What else can be done?

Mannat: You are impossible.

Sweety's mother, Roop, overhears everything and murmurs, "Mannat is very irritating."

Roop is Jhanvi's restaurant partner who always aims to look beautiful. The customers come, but she pushes them.

Jhanvi gets annoyed at Roop's behavior.

Roop: It is ok.

Jhanvi: It is not ok. If we don't get customers, how will we pay our debts? If we don't pay, then we have to leave this place. What will we do then?

Mannat leaves. It starts raining heavily. 

Mannat: I wouldn't say I like these rains.

Suddenly, Anurag calls her "Mannat."

Though Anurag belonged to a wealthy family, he worked with her in an advertising agency. He purchases the flat at the colony where Mannat is living.

At the workplace, Anurag flirts with a lady in the office. The lady said, "I'm married."

Anurag: So what? 

The lady's husband comes there.

She said, "He is my husband."

When Anurag is about to leave, the lady's husband beats him up in the lift & leaves.

He comes to Mannat.

Will Anurag & Mannat fall in love? Or does fate have something else in store for them?
