"We need to talk. There's an all night pancake house a few miles away." Angad said.

I took a deep breath. I knew from past experience that Angad wouldn't take no for an answer.

"C'mon Kripa! We'll have some coffee and talk. Totally harmless."

I bristled. I hated how he knew all the thoughts in my head.  "I don't drink coffee after dark."

"Tea, lemonade, milk, water. Any type of liquid." I could hear laughter in his voice.

     "Fine."

     "Great!" he said in excitedly.

*******

"That was amazing wasn't it?!" Alliyah exclaimed. Josh smiled and put his arm around her.

"That was indeed." Cole said. Rhonda smiled and kissed him on his cheek.

Angad and I stood there, watching the two love crossed couples. I looked at him from the corner of my eyes and noticed him looking at me. We both turned our heads abruptly.

"Im sooo, like, sleepy. Lets go Kripa. Bye guys!" Alliyah said.

Yes! Maybe I wouldn't have to go with Angad after all. I was just about to start walking towards Alliyah when Angad grabbed my arm, sending millions of chills throughout my body. Ugh I hated when he did that; it made me so weak.

"Actually, Kripa and I have to do something. We'll meet you guys later." Angad said. Alliyah smiled and nodded. She seemed to be so clueless; she didn't even know what was happening.

"K! Let's go Josh." Josh and Alliyah left together, and so did Cole and Rhonda. Soon, only Angad and I were left.

"Go change." He said. I nodded and went to change out of my hideous outfit. Inside the dressing room I took my time. I didn't want him to think I was in a hurry to spend time with him.  I just put on my shirt and jeans- a totally normal outfit. I looked at my hair. Should I take it out of the pigtails? Nah. No need for him to think that I did something special for him. I walked back to where he was waiting.

     "Ready?" Angad asked.

     Was I?

     No.

      I nodded.

We walked to his red beauty and got in. He turned his body towards me. I started worrying. What did I get myself into?

"Don't worry- im not gonna jump your bones." He said. I narrowed my eyes at him.  "Can you please take your hair out of pigtails? I don't wanna look like Im going out with a kid."

I gave him a mean look but still took my hair out of the two braids. When they were out, I brushed them with my fingers. I reached for a clip in my bag when I saw his face. He was smiling like a chesire cat.

     "What" I snapped.

"I like it loose."  He said, still grinning.

"Humph." I said; but I left it loose.

******

"Can I help you?" the pretty waitress said to Angad, totally ignoring me.

"Yes. Table for two please." He replied.

She looked at me for a second, and then smiled. She led us to the busiest section of the diner. I was about to sit down when Angad grabbed my arm softly.

"Somewhere more private please?" he asked the waitress.

She made a face at me and led us to a row of booths, all totally unoccupied.

"Someone will be right over." She said to Angad, beaming. He nodded and turned to look at me. She stood there for a seconds and then finally left. I saw her talking to the other young waitresses, and I saw them watching Angad. It seemed like they were saying he was hot.

     "Kripa." He said.

I didn't hear him. I was too busy plotting the death of the waitress who called him a hunk.

"Kripa!" he said. I looked at him.

     "Yes?"

     "So I have a proposal."

WHAT?! A proposal? OMG! Was he gonna propose to me? Wtf?!

Just then a pretty waitress came and asked for our order, looking only at Angad. He ordered a Continental Breakfast and I ordered pancakes with milk. I guess we were getting more than liquids.

     "Can we be friends?"

     "Excuse me?" I squeaked.

"You know friends- people who know each other and enjoy each other's company?" he said, smiling.

"Oh." Was all I could say.

     "So. Yes or no?"

"My sister Mishti says that boys and girls can't be just friends." I pointed out.

"Your sister seems like a very suspicious person."

     I narrowed my eyes.

"Im just joking." He smiled. I ignored him.

"Listen, im saying this cuz of two main reasons. Firstly, we're always surrounded by couples. I don't know about you, but I hate being the third wheel."

Hmmm. He did have a point there….

"And secondly, I won't have to worry about impressing someone."

     "What?"

"You know, once I know that Ill have you to fall back on, I wont have to worry about trying to impress someone."

"Oh." Once again, he did have a point.

"So what say Kripa? Can we be friends?"

I took a deep breath. He looked at me, waiting.

"Fine." I breathed. "But only friends. Nothing more."

"Sure, friend." He replied, grinning like he'd won the lottery.

     I smiled back, despite myself.

     "So, Kripa….." He started.

     "Yes?"

"We're all going to the lake on Friday. Wanna come?"

I narrowed my eyes. "And you ask me this now? After I agreed?"

"No." he said. "We just became friends, so I thought it would be okay….." he smiled that irresistible smile of his and I instantly melted.

"Fine, friend." I said, putting special emphasis on the word 'friend'.

     He grinned. "K friend."
