Chapter 6
Parts 8 and 9 of Pyaar Mein Twist
Angad stalked towards his Dorm Room that night, angry about how things had gone with Kripa.
'This was not part of the plan!' he thought angrily. Kripa was supposed to help him make Harshini jealous, and then she would come crawling back to him after Prithvi had dumped her to go back to Kripa. 'She wasn't supposed to abandon the mission! Stupid Kripa and her stubbornness,' he thought. 'Did she actually feel bad for trying to break up Prithvi and his girlfriend? Why would she be concerned about that? It will work out to her benefit in the end… that girl needs to stop being so noble.'
He wondered how he would convince her to help him again. She was stubborn, he knew that much. Maybe… a gift? But what? He had no idea what she could possibly want… but he knew someone who did. Someone who knew nothing about that plan and would be all too happy to help him because she would think he was being sweet.
'Girls are so easy to manipulate,' he thought to himself as he got ready for bed. 'Better get some sleep… tomorrow will be a long day.'
There was only one thing that bothered Angad in the slightest bit. Somewhere, deep, deep down… he knew he was growing attached to Kripa. He would have to make sure this didn't happen. Angad simply didn't become attached… it was too dangerous. For him and for Kripa.
Kripa awoke the next morning, not really feeling like going to classes. She had a pounding headache and her muscles were aching.
'I feel like I'm a 70 year old woman,' she mused as she reluctantly got out of bed. She got ready for her classes as quickly as she could. She threw her bag over her shoulder and trudged down the stairs. Thoughts from last night plagued her.
'Was I too hard on him? I mean… our plan is working. I probably shouldn't have lost my temper over something so silly anyway. It doesn't matter though. I refuse to go back and ask for his help. Looks like I'm on my own,' she thought. She noticed that neither Prithvi nor Josh were in their dorms. 'They're probably still in the canteen.'
Not feeling like eating breakfast that morning, Kripa headed straight for class. She would be really early, but that just gave her more time to look over what they were doing today. It's not like she needed to… but one could never be too careful.
Meanwhile…
Angad left the canteen, pursuing Alliyah that was not too far in front of him. It was probably the only chance he would catch them alone, so he was taking it.
"Alliyah!" he called out. Geeez that girl walked fast. Alliyah turned around, looking to see who had called her. Her eyes rested on Angad, her shock evident. In a second it turned into a frosty glare.
"What do you want, Angad?" she asked, irritated. Angad hesitated. Was he really so desperate for Kripa's help that he would stoop to asking Alliyah? He shook his head. He didn't want to admit it to himself, but he needed Kripa's help.
"Actually, I was hoping you could help me with something," he responded in the kindest voice he could muster. He bit back any comments he was tempted to say. That probably wouldn't be a wise decision right now. Alliyah looked curious.
"Like what?" she asked.
"Kripa," he said simply. Alliyah looked at him questioningly.
"Trouble in paradise, Angad?"
"You could say that," he replied. Oh… it was so hard not to insult the stupid girl. Alliyah eyed him skeptically, but he could tell she was thinking it over. After a few seconds deliberation, she seemed to reach a decision.
"What exactly is the problem?"
Angad smirked. This was working out perfectly.
"Well, you see, we got in a row last night and she… broke it off," he muttered. He had to make this sound realistic. He had to play the heart broken lover. He could do that. He found he could be a wonderful actor when he needed to be. Alliyah winced.
"Good luck earning her trust again. Trust me, I know from experience. It isn't easy," she advised him. Angad groaned in frustration.
"What am I supposed to do? Help me out here, Alliyah!" he exclaimed exasperatedly. Alliyah thought for a moment, and then grinned wickedly.
"Make her jealous," she said simply. Angad fought hard to hide his shock.
'What the hell? How can this situation become any more ironic?' Angad thought.
He shook his head quickly. "No, can't do that." Alliyah shrugged.
"I don't know what to tell you then, Angad. You're on your own," she replied. With that said, she spun around and walked away from him. Angad sighed.
'Stupid Kripa. Why can't she just come crawling back to me like she's supposed to? Now I actually have to work for her help. Damn it all to hell!'
'You're just upset because she's the first girl who doesn't fall at your feet. She's above your charms. You're scared because she intrigues you. She's an enigma. She's unpredictable. She's everything you've ever wanted,' a nasty voice in the back of his head told him. Angad scowled.
I'm not falling for her. I'm not.
Angad quickly headed back to his dorms, an idea popping into his head. 'It will be totally embarrassing, but it will definitely shock the hell out of her,' he thought smugly.
Dinner, Canteen
Kripa strode calmly towards her Table, making an effort not to scan the Angad's Table for a certain handsome boy.
Stop it, Kripa! Stop thinking about him. She took a seat between Prithvi and Josh, and the two attempted to engage her in conversation. After they realized she wasn't listening, though, they gave up the attempt. I don't need him. I don't, honestly!
"What's going on?" she heard Prithvi say. Kripa looked up and noticed the lights in the canteen were dimming. The few teachers looked confused. Suddenly, a spotlight fell on the Angad's Table. Angad stood up, and, to Kripa's horror, began singing.
Ho meri soni, meri tamannaJhoot nahin hai mera pyaarDeewane se ho gayi galtiJaane do yaarAngad began walking towards Kripa, holding his hand out. Kripa folded her arms over her head in mortification. This was not happening!
I love youI love you
'If I didn't know any better I would actually think he cared,' she thought bitterly. 'Why is he going through all this trouble anyway? Why would he care if we continued our little game?' she wondered.
Meri soni, meri tamannaJhoot nahin hai mera pyaarDeewane se ho gayi galtiJaane do yaarI love youI love youPrithvi sat fuming at Angad's display. 'Why does he think he is? And the teachers even seem to be enjoying this!' he thought angrily. The principle was watching with a huge smile on his face, and one teacher was dancing. 'This is ridiculous! How dare he sing to Kripa!' Prithvi thought, not realizing how crazy he sounded.
Angad smirked to himself when he noticed the look on Kripa's face. It was completely priceless. He reached her Table and grabbed her hand, leading her to the center of the canteen. She refused to look at him, and anything else for that matter. She stared determinedly at the floor.
Aake meri aankhon mein tum dekhoInn mein har ek ada tumhari haiKehne ko yeh dil hai mera lekinDhadkan mein sadaa tumhari haiTumse hai chain meraTumse hai mera karaarLa la lalaI love youI love youSuddenly Mishty, Harshini, and Manan jumped up (not of their own free will, of course) and started singing backup for Angad while dancing in perfect coordination behind him. It was quite a sight to see Mishty, Harshini, and Manan dancing with perfect rhythm and singing at the same time. One would think it wasn't possible.
Mere sona, meri tamannaJhoot nahin hai mera pyaarDeewani se ho gayi galtiJaane do yaarI love youI love youKripa snuck a peak up at Angad. He looked back at her, amusement dancing in his eyes. He yanked her closer to him and put his arms around her waist, swaying with her gently.
Tadap ke yun bahut na tadapaoAccha baba chalo hum hi haareTumne agar dil se mujhe chaahaTum bhi to ho sanam mujhe pyaareMere kareeb aao zara soon bhi lo"Why are you doing this?" Kripa hissed at him. Angad smiled evilly.
"To embarrass the hell out of you," he whispered back so the other occupants of the canteen couldn't hear. Everyone who wasn't staring with their mouths open in shock was either disgusted, enjoying, or touched by the 'romantic' display.
Dil ki pukaarLa la lalaI love youI love you'Has he gone insane? What is with him? Surely he didn't pull this stunt just to embarrass me, did he?' Kripa wondered. She looked up in Angad's eyes again and saw amusement, joy, and… love? Nah, she was imagining it… he didn't love her… he couldn't.
Meri soni, meri tamannaJhoot nahin hai mera pyaarDeewane se ho gayi galtiJaane do yaarHarshini, Mishty, and Manan danced behind Angad, still singing. Angad knew they would kill him for this later… unless of course he knocked them out and they got amnesia… hmm… there was a thought.
La la lalaI love youI love youLa la lalaI love youThe music faded and Kripa sighed in relief. It was over. Angad bowed to the audience. He then leaned down and started whispering in Kripa's ear.
"Be my pretend girlfriend… again?" he asked. Kripa rolled her eyes and smacked him playfully on the arm.
"The scheme is back on, you idiot," she said, smiling. She quickly scurried off back to her Table, avoiding the stares of the rest of the canteen. The principal stood, beaming at everyone.
"Thank you, Mister Khanna for that very nice musical display. It was thoroughly enjoyed by everyone, I am sure." Angad smirked.
'That's what I hoped for. I bet this made Harshini even more jealous! Perfect!' he thought. He couldn't help but think that he didn't only do it for Harshini. He really didn't like Kripa mad at him, even if he wouldn't admit it.
"Aww… Kripa! That was the sweetest thing ever! I wish my boyfriend would so that for me!" Rena gushed. Kripa cringed. She was in for a long night, she could tell.
PART 9
Kripa quickly retreated from the canteen, rushing past everyone. She heard whispers all around and her.
'I swear I'm going to kill that blasted Angad for doing that,' she thought to herself. 'Then why did you agree to help him again?' a voice in her head asked her. She found that, for once, she didn't have an answer.
"Kripa! Oh, Kripa!" she heard a familiar high-pitched voice call. Kripa rolled her eyes and turned around slowly, plastering a fake smile on her face.
"Rena!" she exclaimed with false cheeriness. She didn't seem to notice she was faking it, though, the airhead that she was.
"That was the sweetest thing I have ever seen! I know you two had a falling out, but you agreed to go back to him after that didn't you?" Rena asked her curiously, linking her arm with Kripa's.
"Oh… yes, of course," Kripa replied. Rena beamed at her.
"Wonderful! You two are so cute together… I have to admit; at first I was insanely jealous… I mean it is Angad Khanna, after all. Now that I see how much he cares about you, though, I've found the strength to move on," she said dramatically. Kripa almost laughed at her. She was certainly a piece of work.
"Well, I'm happy for you, Rena," she told the girl. "Now, if you'll excuse me, I have some studying to do," Kripa added, withdrawing her arms. She hurried off before Rena could protest.
'Yes, got away from that stupid gossip queen. Honestly, doesn't she have a life?'
Kripa continued into the direction of the library, not noticing that someone was following her. As she was about to enter, she felt an arm wrap around her waist and a hand cover her mouth. Her eyes widened, and she tried to scream, but it was muffled by the hand. She was dragged into a patch of shadows, and her captor pulled her close. She was tense and afraid. She couldn't do anything.
"Miss me?" she heard him whisper in her ear. She relaxed when she realized who it was. That is, until she stomped on his foot. Angad let out a howl of pain and let go of her. Kripa whipped around, angry.
"Don't you ever do that again! You stupid prat! You scared the hell out of me!" she screeched. Angad winced, covering his ears.
"Geeez, Kripa! Lower the decibels!" he pleaded. Kripa scowled at him.
"How could you pull a stunt like you did in the canteen? Do you have any idea how embarrassing that was? I'll never live it down!" she whined. Angad smirked at her, amused.
"That's what I was hoping for."
"You are truly evil and conceited."
"Why, aren't you just full of flattery today?" Kripa growled at him.
"Prick."
"Bookworm."
"Moron."
"Prude."
"Can you be any more juvenile?" Kripa asked, exasperated.
"Well… actually," Angad started, but Kripa cut him off.
"That was a rhetorical question, Angad."
"Well, next time say that before you ask the question!" he demanded. Kripa rolled her eyes.
"Let's just change the subject, okay?" she asked, irritated.
"What about the plan?" he asked. Kripa nodded. That was a safe topic.
"Yes, of course, the plan. The social is a masquerade, as you know, so that could probably work to our advantage."
"Even if you're going with Josh," he snarled. Kripa sighed.
"I told you! It was the only way I could get him to… wait, why should I bother explaining this to you? It's not as if you deserve an explanation. It doesn't matter, anyway. After the first few dances, I'll just… go off somewhere. He won't notice I'm gone, trust me." Angad smirked gleefully.
"Are you saying you're going to ditch him?" he asked.
"NO! I mean, of course not! I would never…"
"You're going to ditch Josh!"
"I am NOT! Just listen to what I'm saying, Angad! The social is in two weeks. That will be the final phase of our little plan… if Prithvi and Harshini don't want us back, then after that it's not worth trying."
"You're actually making sense for once, Kripa." Kripa glowered at him.
"Stuff it, stupid face."
…
….
…
One week later
Kripa was sleeping soundly when she was rudely awakened by a sharp tapping on her door. She groaned and rolled over, glancing at the time. 6:45 am.
'They better have a bloody good reason for waking me up at this ungodly hour!' Kripa thought angrily, stalking over to open the door for the impatient girl. 'Prithvi,' she thought as she took the letter and slammed the door shut. 'Why is he up so early on a Saturday? Usually he doesn't get up until 12.'
She unrolled the paper, reading Prithvi's note.
Kripa,
Good morning! Sorry to wake you (I know you're not really a morning person), but I thought I'd get this letter to you as soon as possible. As you know, today is a Saturday and I was wondering if you and Mr. Khan- oh, excuse me… you and Angad would like to join Harshini and myself. Think of this as my apology for acting so weird about the whole Angad thing. Tell me your response.
Love,
Prithvi
Kripa smacked herself on the forehead. Of course! It's a Saturday! 'I forgot all about it! Why though, did he have wake me up now! We don't leave until 11:00! Now I won't be able to fall asleep again,' Kripa thought grumpily and went over to her trunk. She pulled out a pair of dark blue jeans, a light blue shirt and a jean jacket. She seated herself at her desk and wrote a response to Prithvi. Since that messenger girl had left she would find someone else to give it to him.
She would have just told Prithvi her answer, but he wasn't in his dorm when she checked. 'He's probably off with Harshini somewhere,' she thought bitterly.
ANGAD'S POV
Dream sequence
There she was again… the girl I had been dreaming about ever since I had returned to school… I had yet to see her face, but she was so familiar. Long brown hair cascaded down her back. I was so close that I could almost touch her… just a little further… she started turning. I would finally see her face! She had almost turned around when…
TAP, TAP TAP. I groaned. This was not happening. I was not being woken up right now! Of all the times the stupid idiot would decide to deliver a letter, it had to be RIGHT NOW. I growled in frustration. I was so close to finally seeing her face! But no! Stupid, stupid people! I walked lazily over to the door and I snatched the letter from the person's hand and glared at it. The boy seemed offended, and immediately left his room.
I opened the letter and was surprised to find it was from Prithvi.
Angad,
As you know, it's a Saturday. To make it up to Kripa for being such a prick, I'm inviting you two to spend the day with Harshini and me. I know you don't like me, and trust me, the feeling is most definitely mutual. I'm just doing this for Kripa's sake. She'll be receiving a similar letter. Don't worry about responding- she'll take care of that. Later, Angad.
-Prithvi
I was woken up at this ungodly hour of the morning for this? I ripped up the letter and threw it in my trash can. Stupid Prithvi and his disregard for people's need to sleep. I slipped back into bed, hoping for another hour of sleep or so. Maybe, just maybe I would finally see the girl from my dreams.
…
…
…
"Angad! Angad!" Kripa called. Angad was sitting at his table, in a daze. "Angad!" Kripa tried again. Angad either didn't hear or ignored her. "ANGAD! SNAP OUT OF IT!" Kripa yelled loudly. Angad jumped and turned around to look at her, seemingly surprised.
"Kripa? What do you want?" Kripa rolled her eyes.
"I've been trying to tell you that we're leaving for the past five minutes. What was wrong with you? Are you on drugs? Because there has to be something that's turning your brain into mush." Angad scowled.
"Shut up."
"Then let's go!" Kripa exclaimed. She grabbed his arm and proceeded to drag him over to Prithvi and Harshini who were waiting patiently by the door.
"Geeez, woman! I'm coming! You don't have to drag me!" he protested. Kripa slowed down and glared at him.
"Stop arguing, you stupid prick! Just act like you're a lovesick idiot and everything will be okay," Kripa snapped at him quietly. She didn't want Prithvi and Harshini to hear. She looked up and met Prithvi's questioning gaze. She smiled sweetly at him and approached the two, Angad in two.
"Good morning, Prithvi, Harshini," she said with fake cheeriness, nodding to each of them in turn. Angad slung an arm around her shoulders and shot Harshini a huge smile. Harshini blushed slightly, much to his satisfaction.
"Well… erm… shall we be off then?" Harshini asked awkwardly. The other three nodded in agreement and the quartet headed out the school. As soon as they had reached their destination, Harshini fell into step beside Kripa, linking arms with her.
"You boys don't mind if us girls go off to look for costumes, do you? You'll behave… won't you?" Harshini asked, giving both of them a pretty smile. The boys nodded dumbly, and, before they realized what was happening, Harshini dragged Kripa off.
"Harshini! Slow down!" Kripa protested as the girl dragged her towards the costume shop. Harshini grinned at Kripa.
"Oh! This will be so fun! You have no idea how long it's been since I've hung out with another girl! Prithvi keeps me pretty busy…," she said, waggling her eyebrows suggestively. Kripa fought the urge to gag. She didn't want to know about that! It was simply disgusting! She hid her repulsion and plastered on a smile.
"Yes… of course… this should be lots of fun," Kripa said with a hint of sarcasm. Harshini didn't seem to notice and only smiled happily before dragging her into a store.
Meanwhile…
Prithvi and Angad walked around, hands in their pockets and sullen looks on their faces.
"Well… this is fun," Prithvi commented sarcastically.
"Oh yes. Tons. I have always dreamed of having my girlfriend ditch me so I could spend the day with the Boy-Who-Makes-My-Life-A-Living-Hell," Angad snarled back. Prithvi glared at him.
"I don't like you any more than you like me, Angad, so just shut it," he snapped. The two boys continued walking around, occasionally going into stores, and uncomfortable silence between them.
'I bet she planned this. It would be just like Harshini to try and make her boyfriend and ex-boyfriend try to get along. This is ridiculous!' Angad thought to himself, scowling. Prithvi raised an eyebrow.
"Do you do anything but scowl?" he asked.
"What's it to you, moron?"
"Simple curiosity."
"Ever heard that curiosity killed the cat?"
"At least when it died it had all the answers," Prithvi replied. Angad frowned, not able to come up with a good response for once.
'Kripa's going to pay for this…. making me spend a day with Prithvi. I just hope they finish whatever they're doing soon and get me the hell out of this situation.'
