Chapter 19
Part 20- Passing notes
I: Di, Eklavya was telling me something!
N: Well, it can wait! You don't need to be late for your classes! And you're sitting right beside me today! I saw what happened last class – "Uhh – What page are we on?" that was not funny, Isha. You can't sleep in class; you're sitting right up in the front with me.
I: Par di –
N: I don't want to hear –
Manthan: You mind if I sit here Isha?
I: Oh, of course not! Here sit; I'll go sit in the back with Lakshya!
Manthan graciously took Isha's seat after seeing how badly Isha didn't want to sit there. He saw her leave and she mouthed a little "thanks." Nisha was busy getting all her things out from her bag. He did the same. Everyone got up as Professor Mehta came. They all went "Good afternoon, ma'am." When class started, Manthan was surprised to get everything. The tutoring lessons with Nisha had really paid off. But now he was just bored because he knew all the answers. He looked over at Nisha and she held the same bored expression. He was curious to know what her answer was. She hadn't answered him at lunch. She had just frozen and when she had opened her mouth to answer him, the bell had rung and she had sprinted off to her next class without answering Manthan's question.
Manthan got a piece of paper out. He wrote: You still didn't answer me He passed it to Nisha. She looked at him as if saying "Are you crazy? Passing notes isn't allowed." When Manthan didn't take his note back, she took it reluctantly and read. Again she froze after reading it. She looked at him; he was clearly waiting for an answer. She decided to take the safe way out. She wrote: About what? Manthan read the note and smiled to himself. Maybe she was playing hard to get. Well, then he wasn't going to tell her about what either.
M: What I told you before, at lunch
N:Ummm...
M: If you want to say no then say it, it's ok
Nisha looked at Manthan, this was not how she wanted to reply. She was probably the most pathetic flirt alive, she thought to herself. Now Manthan had this gloomy look on his face. She couldn't help but notice how adorable he looked when he was sad. She had to smile. Suddenly, Professor Mehta was snapping at Nisha face.
P. Mehta: Nisha!
N: Yes, ma'am.
P.Mehta: Are you ok? You weren't answering my question.
N: Uh – Yes I'm fine, ma'am.
P. Mehta: Good, then can you tell me the answer of the question on the board?
Nisha was brought to a halt. Never in her entire life had she not paid attention in class. She read the question quickly in her head but even with her great math skills she couldn't calculate everything in her head. Now every pair of eyes in her class was watching her intently. Isha, at the back of the class, along with Lakshya were both simply awestruck that Nisha had failed to reply to any question within 2 seconds. Manthan took the note and wrote something in it and secretly passed it over so nobody except him and Nisha would know that he had passed the note. The note said: 835 grams
N: Uh – 835 grams, ma' am
P. Mehta: That's correct, Nisha.
The bell rang and everyone gathered their things and went to their lockers. Nisha took the note and quickly scribbled something on it and stuck it in Manthan's math book. When Manthan was at his locker, he went to put his math note book away when suddenly a note fell out. He realized that it was the same note that he and Nisha were passing during math class. He opened it and saw something scribbled in the last line. It said: My answer is yes.
