Chapter 7 (a)

Nehal kept a hand on Mehak's shoulder while the nurse checked her vitals and changed the bandage on her leg. Mehak just took deep breaths all along.

Once the nurse left, Nehal was about to say something when Mehak asked her to leave her alone for sometime to calm herself down.

 It was true that it was Mehak only who called him but that decision was taken in the heat of the moment and probably she didn't realize back then how much of a stupid decision it was.

She was definitely not ready to have an interaction with the past.

*FLASHBACK*

It was around November of 2016...only a few days were left for the marriage of Mehak Sharma and Armaan Arora.

Mehak Sharma, the daughter of Late Mr. Dheeraj Sharma and Late Mrs. Meera Sharma and the niece of Mr. Ravi Sharma was one celebrated designer when it came to wedding attires.

 She had set up her own business of the same and was doing quite good for herself too. 

Though she was the legal heir of 50% of the shares of the the Sharma Empire still she trusted her Ravi Chachu with the business and never interfered because one always trusts the family, don't they especially when they are so caring and loving.

Whereas, Dr. Armaan Arora, son of Sanjeev Arora, who owned the Sanjeevni hospital was a famous cardiologist. Though new in the field, saving one of the famous ministers gave him quick fame. His good looks and genuine nature worked for him as the icing on the cake. Patients lived him and so did the media.

Though in the same world they were not even acquaintances and they both met each other in one of the business parties and fell for each other soon after because they found their comfort level with each other as they had the same likes and dislikes. They were like two parts of a puzzle that fit perfectly with each other.

 Everything was just perfect and everything was like a fairy tale but it is rightly said fairy tales are too good to be true. Same happened with Mehak and Armaan's life too. Things changed and too quickly on that.

They met in April and by October 30 they were engaged in an extravagant ceremony with all the who's who of the medical field and of the jewelry field. 

The preparations for the wedding began too. The wedding was planned for November. Mehak designed everything on her own. The dresses of the bride and groom and even of the close relatives. She was so happy. Armaan booked a world tour for both of them but future definitely had something else in store for them.

 It was the night of Mehendi when both Armaan and Mehak sneaked out yo have some roadside kulfi something they both liked and it was also their get away from all the heavy talks that their folks engaged in. They were talking about something serious but it didn't concern them so little did they care.

Mehak and Armaan ventured out of the venue when everyone thought they were taking rest before the morning puja in their respective rooms. They took their car with them and enjoyed the drive till Mehak's favourite Kulfi waale Bhaiya. As usual Mehak sat on the bench on the opposite side of the road while Armaan went to the vendor to get two kulfis. He was coming back bringing the sweet delight for both of them when Mehak saw a Speeding truck coming towards him. Words dies in her mouth. She ran towards him and pushed him out of the truck's way but before she could escape herself she was hit by the truck. The effect was so humongous that she was thrown off road 8 feet away . When Armaan recollected himself he ran to where Mehak was in a blood of pool. Though he was a doctor and so much blood daily but seeing her in that state made him weak from inside. He picked her up and ran to the car driving like a maniac to the nearey hospital. Mehak was taken in the emergency room and then there was silence. Silence that engulfed him. He didn't know how and why he was in that situation. It was his marriage the next day and his bride lay on. Hospital bed with various wired attached to her.

The police came, the staff tried talking to him. He was just numb unable to react to anything happening around. His phone dropped from his hand the staff finally called the family of the patient. On seeing the common page 3 faces the commotion in and the gravity of the situation increased. 

Sanjeev called his best doctors who operated on his would be daughter in law for 4 hrs but they came out only with the bad news that she was in a coma.

She was in all these thoughts when Armaan suddenly entered the hospital room almost barging inside with Nehal who was trying to stop him. Mehak saw him and fresh tears made their way to her eyes. She knew it was time to finally confront her past to escape from the shadows of the past. Mehak asked Nehal to go. Armaan came near her and caressed her face, her fractured arm to finally hold her hand.

Mehak let the tears flow. She told him that she was fine and he should go to his current fiancee rather than sitting with his disabled ex whom he left two years ago when she needed him the most.

Shaurya who was in the hospital again to see Mehak was marching towards her room when he saw Nehal and asked her why she was outside, was Mehak getting a sponge bath.

Nehal gave him an angry look and said that he should go away from there as he said a lot yesterday only and then with the unwanted dose of ex fiance Mehak didn't require his lecture.

Shaurya said that he knew that he might have said a lot the other day but he was genuinely angry because ego wasn't always good and she could have led to other people' s death. He tried to explain that he was here for a simple sorry and nothing else. Both Nehal and him were still quarreling outside when they heard Mehak shout on Armaan to just get out and that she wanted nothing to do with him. Without wasting a second Nehal barged in and asked him to get out. The door was ajar and Shaurya could see that the other dude was in no mood to leave without getting a good dose of Shaurya Khanna because the girls weren't definitely doing a good job at getting rid of him. He too barged in and said in the most sarcastic tone ever that the dude should leave or he would have to get a bed too. Armaan asked who was he to Mehak and being a hero didn't mean he could bark out orders to other respected people of the society. Shaurya kept his hands on his shoulders as if warning him of the consequences to go further in their fight but Armaan wasn't just ready to listen. By this time the girls were completely quiet and were seeing the staring match.

Shaurya said that he was the new best friend of Mehak since he saved her from the fire and the interaction they had that night cleared to him that Armaan the ex fiance dude was nothing for her . Saying this Shaurya asked Armaan to leave. Armaan was about to revert when his phone rang and he had to attend it because it was Shruti's dad and an important investor. He left from there. With him gone both Mehak and Nehal  stared at shaurya with confusion and disbelief.
