Chapter 4

Sat against the headboard of the bed with a book where Anjali and nani had left her. For the first fifteen minutes or so Khushi did pay attention at the door of the room from time to time, She was asked to change into a saari,  put on jewellery and given words of advice and excitement by her sister in law and then left to wait.  Non of it mattered she knew because her husband wasn't one to follow convention and somewhere she was thankful for it. She found the whole wedding night hype confusing. As nervous as it made her she was sure that he wouldn't have a care in the world for the kind of the customary because he was blunt as a knife over that matter earlier on.

Whatever was going to happen between them wasn't going to be convention that was for sure and top stop her mind from exploring the possibilities she tried to distract herself with this book that sat by the beside.

They were like chalk and cheese his books were about business, wealth and power and she was about music arts and romance.

When he walked into the room, phone in hand, still very much in his evening attire of his shirt, sleeves now a little rolled up to his forearms and collar a little loose he looked at her with kind acknowledgment. Noticed the way she put her book down to pay him more attention as soon as he walked in.

That sort of attention wasn't something he required.

Make yourself comfortable and get some rest he spoke looking ready to retire for rest himself.

Khushi affirmed with a smile, it had been a long day, there was too much to take in already. Phew she thought not knowing what she would have done if they would have had the sughaag raat Anajli was trying to suggest and prepare her for.

By the time he returned to bed from whatever last few chores that remained in the evening, Khushi was quietly at rest in bed.

From the movement of her bangles it was apparent that she wasn't yet asleep. Weren't

"So how does this compare to your home?" .. he asked as they both lay in bed,  Arnav laying on his back looking out onto the ceiling whilst Khushi lay in one corner of the bed on her side.

"I usually sleep on the floor at home, It's the coolest place in the whole house

It was nice to hear something from her he thought. "well the arrows on here"..(picking up the remote for the AC) "to control the temperature in the room" he explained picking up remote and she turned to see his explanation. The first and last thing he noticed was that Khushi in respect to him was a very slender fragile figure her hands were half the size of his , and the first thing she noticed about him was that close up he had modest streaks of grey in his hair. Whilst he was comfortable the conversation Khushi maybe not sure much. "I'd like some water, but not sure where the kitchen is.

...

Whilst Khushi poured herself some water ASR had his hand in a jar of cookies at the kitchen table.

She was sure her husband was diabetic so when he worked his way through those rainbow biscuits she wondered if she ought to say something. The nice thing about this was that she got to see his more childlike side to a gentleman who was normally suited booted and quite serious.

He turned the jar towards her..and she  silently nodded a "no thank you."

...

The next morning as Khushi opens her eyes she has no idea how she has ended up in his arms. Practically cased in his arms opens her eyes tiredly as she hears him talking. With one arm still over his cushion  and the other holding his mobile phone is he trying to remain still as to not disturb khushi who is comfortably sleeping over him.

He talks down his mobile phone asking Hari Prakash to serve morning tea and coffee in the next hour or so still in a tiresome voice, when khushi pays further attention she feels him pass his mobile phone away to the side and realises just how close she Is to him. Her body is encased over his somewhat, on of his arm lays on top of her back.

She'd no Idea how they had ended up like this her first inclination was to move around awkwardly a little but there was also a very safe warm feeling in his arms. As sleep slowly started to leave her she was more aware of her proximity to him and his to her.

Sleep okay? He asked her with his arm still over her shoulder she nodded, trying not to convey that she wanted to get up as soon as possible because she felt a little compromised in this posture. Her whole weight was over his, her curves, she'd never been this close to another man before and it seemed to make her body feel different. She needed to freshen up before it got embarrassing. Where as ASR a lot more understanding of human norms could see that Khushi was embarrassed of the morning norms. If a man was aroused in the morning a woman naturally had the equivalent. He was discreet about what he knew of the situation and gave her way to freshen up even if his natural inclination would have been to tell her to stop behaving that way about something that was a fact of life he stopped himself. There was something about her that stopped him from being as  sharp tongued as he normally would be with others.

She shuffled out of bed and into the shower in a delicate lady like way and  returned as beautiful if not more.

By which time ASR was sat behind his laptop in bed checking his email, waiting for their bed tea but one glance and he was left a stray.

He should have looked back at his emails and he did but he'd also wanted to take another glance or two up to take in this new part of his life that was so innocently adorable without knowing so.

She tidied her just washed hair, put on her mangalsutra, and adjusted her saari a little. it was her morning saari, the one she wore for prayer, the one she wore to rehearse her music in but it was fitting for it was red and red was conventional for a new bride.

Out she went into the poolside to carry out her morning routine which was some singing practise although she would try to be quiet as not to disturb him.

ASR took a glance up, she had a nice routine, a therapeutic one not like his. Bluetooth, laptop, phone.

Just as he reflected was there a knock at the door, it was Anjali and for he let her in, with a voiced approval although he had hoped it would be his coffee.

His sister walked in as usual smiling happily but not empty handed she had a platter of some sort, it had to be a  tradition he thought. Gifts for the new bride.

Khushiji? Anjali asked softy not seeing khushi in the room wondering if she was still getting ready.

Arnav pointed out that she was the poolside carrying out her morning routine to which Anjali was delighted and made her way towards her new sister in law.

When Anjali approached khushi  was delighted to see her if not a tad nervous. She didn't want to be teased about her wedding night nor did she want any mention of it but there was always going to be a hint of it.

Yey aap ke liyey khushi ji, (These are for you) Anjali smiled handing over a plate with gifts, bangles, new outfit, gold and other accessories. Khushi thanked her to which anjali cupped her cheek and smiled.

She made a point of asking her stubly if she was okay yet stressing it at the same time trying to imply that if there was anything the matter after their wedding night she could share it with her. Khushi somewhere appreciated this, it was kind, comforting gesture but there was nothing to worry about.

Arnav eyed the two ladies at the poolside well aware of  why there seemed to be this morning after tradition.

...

Next chapter:

As khushi sits down at the Raizada coffee table she notices the magazine that compliments it. A fashion magazine, a prominent and well known one but on the cover sat Arnav Singh Raizada surrounded by various pretty women in lineage. She knew her husband was dominant figure in the world of business and fashion and she shouldn't be offended by press but the awkwardness in her was more apparent on her expression then she realised.  Enough for Arnav to notice who was near by.
