In many homes, the role of a homemaker is often overlooked. Her constant efforts to save, manage, and care are seamlessly integrated into the family's everyday life, yet they seldom receive the same recognition as the work of the primary breadwinner. Zee TV's upcoming show, Bas Itna Sa Khwaab, sheds light on this underappreciated aspect through the story of Avani Trivedi, a housewife from Kanpur.
Avani's life revolves around small sacrifices and unwavering dedication to her family's well-being. Every penny she saves and every chore she takes on is her way of contributing to the family's ultimate dream of buying a bigger home. Despite her tireless efforts, her commitment often goes unacknowledged. What is often overlooked is the immeasurable value she adds to the household—while her work may not be financially rewarded, its impact on her family's happiness and stability is beyond measure.
The show stars the talented Rajshree Thakur as Avani, with Yogendra Vikram Singh portraying her husband, Shikhar. Shikhar, deeply rooted in traditional values, believes that a wife should always stay one step behind her husband, much like Sita did to Lord Ram. He follows the rigid societal norms where roles for men and women are strictly defined, and he finds the idea of those boundaries being blurred uncomfortable. Despite his love for Avani, he frequently fails to recognize the enormity of her contributions to their family. His sole focus remains on his ambition to build a new house.
Yogendra Vikram Singh shared, "As I step into the role of Shikar in the show, I'm both excited and challenged by the depth of his personality. My character embodies a traditional mindset, one deeply rooted in the conventional beliefs he grew up with. He sees a wife's role as a support in his life, shaped by the belief that a woman should stand a step behind her husband and listen to him because he knows better. It's an interesting challenge for me as an actor, as I am exploring complex themes of tradition, ambition, and family but I am excited and looking forward to the audience's reactions to our show."
Bas Itna Sa Khwaab sends a powerful message through Avani's journey: Housewives who balance countless responsibilities within their homes with grace and skill are more than capable of stepping beyond the confines of their household roles. They, too, can enter the larger world and contribute in meaningful ways. "Jo ghar sambhaal sakti hai, woh ghar chala bhi sakti hai."
