The iconic comic caper Biwi No. 1, starring Salman Khan, Sushmita Sen, and Karisma Kapoor, is all set for a theatrical re-release on November 29, 2024. The film, originally released in 1999, continues to be cherished for its engaging narrative, chart-topping songs, and star-studded cast.
Interestingly, Salman Khan replaced Govinda in the film after the latter reportedly had a disagreement with Sushmita Sen. Salman, however, had no hesitation about working with Sen despite her towering height, which had been a point of discussion on set.
During the shoot of the popular song Chunari Chunari, director David Dhawan had reportedly advised Sushmita not to wear heels to balance the height difference. Salman, however, insisted that she should wear them if she felt comfortable. Furthermore, Salman refused to use lifts in his shoes, famously stating, “Performance decides the height of an actor.”

The film went on to achieve several milestones. Sushmita Sen won the Filmfare Award for Best Supporting Actress for her performance, while Salman Khan earned nominations for Best Actor in a Comic Role at Filmfare and other prestigious ceremonies.
Biwi No. 1, produced by Vashu Bhagnani and directed by David Dhawan, also marked the first time Salman Khan, Saif Ali Khan, and Anil Kapoor appeared together in a film. The movie emerged as the highest-grossing Bollywood film of 1999, cementing its place as a blockbuster. Its re-release is expected to rekindle nostalgia and introduce the cult classic to a new generation of audiences.
