"We were very clear 'Potluck' is made for the web even though it is a sitcom" - Rajshree Ojha

With web shows on the rise, there have been all kinds of shows coming and being successful as well. However, the thing with Indian shows has been that we have barely seen a good sitcom coming up on any platform.

We saw a show like Potluck coming up on Sony LIV, where you can read our review here. But the show came on a web platform where ideally, sitcoms can be perfect for television. So, in an exclusive interview with us, we asked the director of the show, Rajshree Ojha as to if she feels rather disappointed that a worthy sitcom like Potluck is not coming on TV and Indian viewers seemingly aren't ready for it to be coming on TV.

To this, she said, "Not really. I think it was clear from the get-go that it is for the web and that will continue to be the case. A year or two ago, this question would have been a concern may be but the web world is seemingly booming faster than ever. The best part about it is that it is there to stay. Unlike on TV where we see shows coming and going off-air, a show on web stays and you never know when it can pick up.

She added, "Also, I don't think India on the whole is ready for a sitcom-like presentation on TV when it comes to treating the kind of content Potluck had. The younger generation which probably consists 60 percent of India are watching content on web and not on TV so, I feel great that Potluck is on the web. We were very sure of the audience we were targeting - the youth and the urban and not the whole of India per se."

Potluck is currently available to stream on SonyLIV.
