Vicky Kaushal’s highly anticipated historical film Chhaava has kicked off with a strong performance at advance booking counters since Saturday evening, with Maharashtra standing out as its top market. The movie, centered on the life of Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj, has achieved an incredible 60% of its overall bookings from this area.
Recent data shows that Chhaava has achieved approximately Rs 2.48 crore in advance bookings nationwide, with block seat sales pushing the total to Rs 3.59 crore. Maharashtra leads with a remarkable Rs 1.68 crore in advance bookings, increasing to Rs 2.22 crore when block seats are considered. This robust response in Maharashtra was expected, given that the film portrays the life of one of the region's most celebrated historical personalities.
The state has reported a 13% real occupancy rate across 1,568 shows, with 77 shows close to full capacity and 152 shows filling up rapidly. This remarkable response reflects the deep emotional connection the audience has to the legacy of Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj.
Although Maharashtra has dominated the bookings, other states have seen more modest responses. Karnataka has generated Rs 10.49 lakh with an 8% occupancy rate, and Telangana has recorded Rs 13.95 lakh with a 14% occupancy rate, showcasing the strongest figures among states outside Maharashtra. In the north, states like Delhi (Rs 9.68 lakh), Gujarat (Rs 9.96 lakh), and Rajasthan (Rs 7.6 lakh) are witnessing steady but lower demand. Meanwhile, southern regions such as Tamil Nadu (Rs 2.25 lakh) and Kerala (Rs 37K) are showing limited engagement, which is anticipated for a historical drama centered on a Maratha warrior.
In this film, Vicky Kaushal embodies Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj, a brave warrior-king celebrated for his fight against the Mughal Empire. Following his captivating role in Sam Bahadur, Kaushal is ready to deliver another powerful performance as a historical figure. The cast also includes Rashmika Mandanna as Yesubai.
