Vicky Kaushal’s latest period drama, Chhaava, has taken the box office by storm, smashing records within just three days of its release. The Laxman Utekar-directed historical epic has outperformed every other major Bollywood release of 2025 so far, setting a new benchmark for Hindi cinema.

The film opened with a staggering Rs 33.10 crore, despite releasing on Valentine’s Day, which is usually reserved for romantic films. However, strong word-of-mouth propelled its collections further, leading to Rs 39.30 crore on day two. On its third day, the movie witnessed an even bigger jump, collecting an estimated Rs 50 crore. With a total of Rs 122.40 crore in its first weekend, Chhaava has become the biggest box-office success of the year so far.

The film has managed to surpass the lifetime earnings of several other big releases this year, including Deva, Sky Force, Badass Ravi Kumar, Loveyapa, Fateh, Game Changer (Hindi), and even the re-release of Sanam Teri Kasam. This remarkable achievement has cemented Chhaava as the most successful Hindi film of 2025, outpacing all competition within just three days.

For Vicky Kaushal, Chhaava marks a career-defining moment. The actor, who previously saw success with Uri: The Surgical Strike, has now delivered his biggest opening yet, surpassing the Rs 8.62 crore debut of Bad Newz and the Rs 35.73 crore opening weekend of Uri. His portrayal of Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj has been widely praised, with audiences and critics applauding his powerful screen presence and emotional depth. His performance has solidified his place in the league of Bollywood’s top actors.

The film narrates the compelling story of Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj, the valiant Maratha warrior who fought against Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb. It showcases the historical conflicts, bravery, and sacrifices made by the Marathas in their resistance against the Mughal empire. Alongside Vicky Kaushal, the film stars Akshaye Khanna as Aurangzeb, bringing to life an intense on-screen rivalry that has captivated audiences.

With a reported budget of Rs 130 crore, Chhaava is on its way to becoming a massive box-office blockbuster. The absence of any major Hindi releases until John Abraham’s The Diplomat on March 7 means the film is likely to enjoy an extended run, further boosting its collections. If it maintains this momentum, Chhaava could emerge as the biggest Bollywood success of the year.

The film's exceptional performance has reshaped the box-office landscape for 2025, proving that historical dramas still have a strong audience base.
