Late Actress Reema Lagoo's Ex-Husband Vivek Passes Away At 74

Veteran Marathi theatre and television actor Vivek Lagoo, known as the former husband of late actress Reema Lagoo, passed away on June 19 at the age of 74. His final rites are scheduled for June 20 at Oshiwara crematorium in Mumbai.

Vivek Lagoo had built a strong reputation in the Marathi theatre circle and also contributed to Indian television and cinema. While he largely stayed away from the limelight in recent years, he remained respected in artistic circles. His death marks the end of an era for many who remember his contribution to stage and screen.

He and Reema Lagoo met in 1976 while working at a bank, where their shared love for theatre brought them closer. They married in 1978. Although the marriage later ended, they remained respectful of one another. In an earlier interview, Vivek had said that their separation was “an understanding to restructure our lives,” reflecting the maturity and mutual regard they held post-divorce.

Their only daughter, Mrunmayee Lagoo Waikul, has taken forward their artistic legacy. Mrunmayee is now an acclaimed writer and director, known for her work in socially aware cinema and streaming content. She has worked on projects like Thappad and Scoop, and has carved out a space for herself as a creative force in the industry.

The news of Vivek Lagoo’s death comes nearly seven years after Reema Lagoo’s sudden passing in 2017. Reema had suffered a fatal heart attack shortly after shooting for the TV show Naamkarann. Mrunmayee and her husband had rushed her to the hospital, but she was declared dead that same night. Her last rites were also held at the same Oshiwara crematorium.

Together, Vivek and Reema Lagoo formed a cultural legacy that has left an imprint on Indian stage and screen. Their individual and shared journeys have shaped how middle-class family stories are portrayed in Marathi and Hindi entertainment.
