Udne Ki Aasha: Rajkumar Kanojia talks about his unique role as Shining Sultan

Rajkumar Kanojia, celebrated for his impeccable comic timing and nuanced performances, is all set to bring his dynamic energy to Udne Ki Aasha, produced by Rahul Kumar Tewary and Rolling Tales Production. In the show, he plays the quirky character of Shining Sultan, a butcher (Kasai) whose complexity adds both humour and depth to the narrative. Kanojia describes his character, saying, "Shining Sultan plays himself but tries to get into the skin of the characters he portrays, whether it's Al Habibi or anything else. But at the end of the day, he's still a Kasai. That's why his language is peppered with phrases like mutton chaap, churbi, gurda, boti boti, and kaleji ki kasam. These quirks add authenticity to his character and make him relatable."

But Sultan is more than just a butcher—he's a dreamer and a devoted Salman Khan fan. Kanojia explains, "The character tries to show that re-enacting and reflecting can't happen simultaneously—they're quite different. He serves as the comic relief in this intense story, but he's also honest and opportunistic, always looking for his moment in the spotlight."

One of the funniest elements of Sultan's journey comes from a prank played by his family. They convince him that he's part of a Bigg Boss-style setup, complete with hidden cameras. Unaware that it's all a hoax, Sultan genuinely believes he's being watched by a national audience. "He genuinely thinks he's in Bigg Boss. That's what makes his journey funny and endearing, Kanojia laughs."

While Shining Sultan provides plenty of laughs, Kanojia sees more depth to the character. "At its core, the character is about resilience, self-belief, and finding joy in the mundane," he shares.
