Veteran Bollywood singer Udit Narayan has recently found himself at the center of a controversy after a video of him kissing a female fan on the lips during a live performance went viral. The incident, which took place while he was singing the hit song Tip Tip Barsa Paani, left fans stunned and sparked intense debates on social media. While many criticized the singer for crossing a line, others felt that the moment was merely an outcome of fan enthusiasm. Now, fellow playback singer Abhijeet Bhattacharya has stepped forward to defend Udit, dismissing the backlash as an overreaction.
In a recent interview with News18, Abhijeet backed Udit, stating that such incidents are common in the music industry, especially when fans get carried away during concerts. He claimed that without proper security, artists often experience situations where fans become overly excited. According to Abhijeet, Udit has always been a popular figure among female admirers, and they often surround him out of admiration. He firmly denied any allegations of misconduct, saying, Ladkiyaan unke peeche padhi thi. He didn’t pull anyone close.
Abhijeet also shared a personal anecdote from his early career, recalling a concert in South Africa where a group of women showered him with kisses, leaving his cheeks covered in lipstick marks. He noted that this happened in front of the legendary Lata Mangeshkar and suggested that such fan interactions are not uncommon. He further emphasized that Udit’s wife, Deepa Gahatraj, is usually present at his events, making it unlikely that he would act inappropriately.
This is not the first time Udit Narayan has been caught in such a situation. The singer has previously been seen expressing affection towards his female colleagues in the industry. There have been instances where he kissed singers like Shreya Ghoshal and Alka Yagnik on the cheeks, which, though seemingly harmless, have occasionally raised eyebrows.
Following the backlash, Udit Narayan addressed the controversy in an interview, explaining that fan excitement sometimes leads to spontaneous moments. He insisted that the kiss was unintentional and that people should not read too much into it. He also hinted that there might be hidden agendas behind the criticism, suggesting that his family’s clean public image might have made them easy targets.
