Singer Abhijeet Bhattacharya has never held back from speaking his mind, and in a recent chat with Mashable India, he pulled back the curtain on some of the behind-the-scenes moments from Main Hoon Na. Known for lending his voice to some of Bollywood’s most memorable tracks, Abhijeet shared his version of events around the songs Tumhe Jo Maine Dekha and Gori Gori, offering insight into the dynamics between him and composer Anu Malik.
Reflecting on his work with Anu Malik, Abhijeet commented that the composer often had a strong desire to perform his own songs and, if given a chance, would have preferred to even appear on screen singing them. According to the singer, Anu Malik believed his compositions were so impactful that he wanted to lend his own voice and face to them, and that mindset often shaped how songs were assigned.
Abhijeet then revealed that Gori Gori, a popular track from Main Hoon Na, was initially recorded in his voice alongside KK. However, he later discovered that the final version of the song featured Anu Malik’s vocals instead. He recalled the moment with a touch of humour and surprise, mimicking Malik’s style and expressing disbelief over how the track was taken away after it had already been recorded.
He also shared that Tumhe Jo Maine Dekha almost followed the same path. The singer felt that the execution of the song lacked preparation. He was called on set and asked to record the track without much prior notice or rehearsal. Although he completed the recording promptly, he believes the song could have had even greater impact had he been given time to prepare. In his view, a more polished version might have elevated it further in public memory.
While the era of those studio sessions may have passed, Abhijeet’s recollections shed light on the creative choices and tensions that often unfold behind closed doors in the film industry.
