After years of waiting and speculations, there’s finally some solid hope for all Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah fans who’ve dearly missed the infectious energy of Daya Bhabhi. In a recent interaction with The Indian Express, the show’s producer Asit Modi opened up about bringing back the iconic character, originally played by Disha Vakani.
“We will definitely bring back the character of Daya Bhabhi,” said Modi, acknowledging what most fans have been echoing for years — that the show hasn’t felt the same since her departure. And honestly, he’s not wrong. Daya’s trademark laughter, her quirky Garba outbursts, and her sweet chemistry with Jethalal brought a unique charm to the show that’s been hard to replace.
Modi further shared that he has already shortlisted a few actors for the role, and viewers might soon get to see a new face stepping into Daya’s shoes. It’s been five long years since Disha Vakani exited the show, and even now, her absence is deeply felt. “She cared deeply for her fellow actors and the crew,” he said, hinting that the search isn’t just for a performer but someone who can carry forward Disha’s legacy with equal warmth and sincerity.

While fans continue to hold out hope that Disha herself might make a surprise comeback, the reality seems to be tilting towards a recast. Still, this confirmation from Asit Modi is bound to stir excitement. Whether it’s a new Daya or the old one, one thing’s clear — Gokuldham isn’t complete without her.
Let’s hope the makers make this big return count.
