'The Office' Duo Steve Carell & Greg Daniels' Space Force Adds Ben Schwartz

The Office duo of Steve Carell & Greg Daniels are reuniting for a new project and the show has already roped in some prolific names to the cast. While Tawny Newsome and Diana Silvers have already been roped in for important roles in the show, it has now added actors Ben Schwartz and John Malkovich.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Netflix ordered the comedy straight to series in January, several months after President Donald Trump announced plans for a sixth branch of the military dedicated to protecting American interests in space. The 10-episode series, set to premiere in 2020, is a workplace comedy about the people on Earth tasked with creating the new command. Carell stars as Gen. Mark R. Naird, who has been tapped by the White House to get "boots on the moon" by 2024.

Malkovich will be playing Dr. Adrian Mallory, the brilliant, arrogant head science advisor who hopes to prevent outer space from becoming the next international battlefield. Schwartz will play . Tony Scarapiducci, a media consultant whose Machiavellian goals only sometimes align with those of Naird or Space Force. The actor reunites with Daniels, who co-created Parks and Rec with Mike Schur. Silvers will play Mark's daughter, Erin. A popular A-student in Washington, she's an outcast in Wild Horse, Colorado, where Space Force is headquartered, and turns to delinquency. Newsome will play helicopter pilot Angela Ali. She's ambitious and competitive and has secret dreams she keeps close to the vest.

Carell and Daniels are executive producing the series with 3 Arts' Howard Klein. Sources say that Carell, who also stars in Apple's The Morning Show, due to premiere in November struck a lucrative deal for Space Force, with his salary including co-creator and exec producer fees likely topping the $1 million per episode that castmembers of CBS' The Big Bang Theory previously netted.
