Tahira Kashyap recalls having 'zero bank balance' post marriage: 'Ayushmann did not understand…'

During a candid conversation with Official People of India, Tahira opened up about the financial strains they faced early in their marriage. She had moved to Mumbai with her own savings and a sense of independence, but without a job, while Ayushmann was just starting his career as a VJ.

“I had spent some money on my wedding but I had my own savings. But, I didn’t have a job in Mumbai. We had just gotten married and I was still applying for jobs," she said. Tahira also revealed that Ayushmann didn't fully realize she was solely using her savings to cover the household grocery expenses.

Tahira explained that with no income and bills to pay, her savings were going down. Ayushmann didn't realize she was the one paying for groceries. "This boy did not understand how were we getting the food, like how were we buying all of these vegetables, fruits. My bank balance was depleting. I had never asked anyone for money, even my parents," she shared and added, “I had always been financially independent but now everything went for a toss because it had been a year and my bank balance was zero."

“I was so angry because he didn’t notice that I wasn’t eating mangoes for two days so he could eat. He asked, ‘What’s the problem?’ And I just started crying. I asked, ‘How do you think we are buying groceries?’ He was like, ‘Oh yeah’. I said, ‘My bank balance is zero. It’s been 7-8 months and I am trying to figure out jobs and we are spending only my savings. And then he realised, ‘Why didn’t you ask me for money?’ I said, ‘Because I can’t. You are supposed to buy groceries with me.’ By then he had become a VJ so his journey had started," she recalled.
