Swara Bhasker Defends Karan Johar, Alia Bhatt, says Blaming Them For Sushant’s Death is 'Height of Idiocy'

‘Depression did not kill Sushant, Nepotism did' has been trending on Twitter and people slammed the B Town celebrities for their hypocritical condolences after Sushant’s demise. Actor Swara Bhasker came forward and stated that blaming KJo, Alia Bhatt or other actors for Sushant’s demise is ‘ height of idiocy.’

Bollywood’s very own M S Dhoni, Sushant Singh Rajput,  succumbed to his long battle with depression and hanged himself to death at his Bandra residence in Mumbai on Sunday, June 14. This news comes as a big shock as the young actor was loved by the audience and was a stellar performer on screen as well. 

Apart from Sushant’s six-months -long depression battle, many have called out nepotism and Bollywood biggies for neglecting the young actor, an ‘outsider’ and slammed the celebrities for their hypocritical condolences after Sushant’s demise. Many on the Internet also started a trend saying that ‘Depression did not kill Sushant, Nepotism did’, this in turn, has paved way for several controversies and Twitter debates.

In the light of such comments being made against Dharma Productions head honcho Karan Johar, actor Swara Bhasker came forward to voice her opinion and stated that blaming KJo, Alia Bhatt or other actors for Sushant’s demise is ‘ height of idiocy.’

Swara wrote on Twitter: "Parts of India Twitter blaming #KaranJohar and #AliaBhatt for the tragic suicide of Sushant - for some silly game played on a frivolous and pointless chat show (that All those people who are now abusing Bollywood nepotism lapped up) is both the height of idiocy and hypocrisy!”

In another tweet, she added: “Sushant didn’t leave a note. We don’t know what he went thru. We don’t know the cause. taking out ur frustration using the pain of a troubled person. He didn’t leave a note! Get it? He didn’t want to talk about it. He’s gone. Let him have his peace & his family privacy. 2/n."

Swara’s comments irked many people who bashed her for defending Karan Johar and Alia Bhatt following Sushant Singh Rajput’s demise. “Hmm! You sound so insensitive when you defend Alia and Karan. Here in US, we call it a bully. It might be silly or frivolous show for some but not for all...certainly not for the one on who’s expense these two were laughing” a user wrote among many others.

In another tweet, Swara also wrote: “People should really stop using someone’s suffering and tragic demise to further their own agenda. #SushantSinghRajput.”

Swara, who is known for her activism received a befitting reply from BJP National Spokesperson, Sambit Patra who hit back at the actress saying: "People should really stop using someone’s suffering and tragic demise to further their own agenda! #RohitVemula"

For the unaware, a Dalit scholar Rohit Vemula committed suicide on the campus of the University of Hyderabad earlier on January 17, 2016, following alleged caste bias and Swara has stood in solidarity with Vemula and also relentlessly used Vemula's death to attack the current regime.

After accused of hypocrisy, Swara replied by saying "The administration harassed Rohit Vemula, suspended him, stopped his fellowship, and pushed him towards suicide. These are not my statements - facts based on suicide note, documents, and chronology. "
