Stree 2 was made under pressure, reveals director Amar Kaushik: "Sequel ko hamesha gaaliyan padti hain."

Stree 2, starring Shraddha Kapoor and Rajkummar Rao, hit theatres on August 15 last year and continued the spooky-fun vibe of the original 2018 blockbuster. While fans loved the return of the iconic lead pair, director Amar Kaushik recently revealed the behind-the-scenes pressure he faced while making the much-anticipated sequel.

In a conversation with Komal Nahta on his YouTube channel Game Changers, Amar Kaushik shared that making Stree 2 was no easy task. He admitted the sequel was preponed, and that created a hectic production schedule. “Bahut pressure mein film banayi thi. Ek toh sequel ka tha, sequel ko hamesha gaaliyan padti hai,” he said.

He continued, “Maine aur mere writer, Niren Bhatt ne kaha ‘bhai gaali khaane ke liye ready raho, ab kitni kum khaaoge uspe kaam karte hai’.” This shows how he and his team mentally prepared themselves to handle the usual criticism sequels get, and focused on reducing it as much as possible.

Amar also highlighted the challenges that came with VFX. Since he and his team weren’t directly involved in the technical part, predicting timelines became tricky. The pressure to meet deadlines led to many sleepless nights, especially during post-production. “Now that the film is out, I’m finally getting proper sleep,” he joked.

After such a packed schedule, the director has now decided to take a break for a few months. He also mentioned that fans have already started asking about Stree 3, but he is trying not to stress about it just yet.

Backed by Dinesh Vijan and Jio Studios, Stree 2 turned out to be a massive commercial hit, collecting over 800 crore worldwide. The mix of horror, humour, and nostalgia struck the right chord again, making it another win for Amar Kaushik and team.
