'Squid Game' to return with Season 2; makers drop official announcement teaser

Fans can dance around in joy and fasten their seat belts as they will get to witness yet another thrilling and jaw-dropping season of 'Squid Game'.

Yes, you heard it right as, Netflix announced on Sunday that global blockbuster "Squid Game" will return for a second season, with a few indications about what's to come in the dark Korean thriller.

The message alongside the teaser read, “Red light… GREENLIGHT!”  which features the animation of the gigantic animatronic doll which was a part of the “Squid Game” pilot in Season 1.

In an official letter, writer and director Hwang Dong-hyuk teased a few tidbits regarding the show's second season.

“It took 12 years to bring the first season of 'Squid Game' to life last year. But it took 12 days for 'Squid Game' to become the most popular Netflix series ever,” reads the statement from director Hwang.

“As the writer, director and producer of ‘Squid Game,’ a huge shout out to fans around the world. Thank you for watching and loving our show.”

Hwang goes on to tease a bit of the story for the second season, indicating that both protagonist Seong Gi-hun (Lee Jung-jae) and masked nemesis the Front Man (Lee Byung-hun) will return.

"The man in the suit with ddakji might be back," Hwang writes, before revealing that Young-hee's boyfriend will be presented. Young-hee is the massive killer mechanical doll that shows spectators how lethal the game is.

"Join us once more for a whole new round", the statement concludes. 

However, there was no mention of when the new season would be released in the announcement.

When it premiered in September 2021, "Squid Game" became the most-watched series on the OTT platform. The show follows cash-strapped competitors as they play childhood games in the hopes of winning life-changing sums of money.
