Sooraj Barjatya Refuses Sequel with Salman Khan and Madhuri Dixit – Here’s Why!

Filmmaker Sooraj Barjatya, who gave us the evergreen classic Hum Aapke Hain Koun, has recently opened up about his desire to work again with Salman Khan and Madhuri Dixit. Their jodi from the 1994 film is still remembered fondly by fans across generations. However, despite this love, Sooraj made it clear that he is not interested in making a sequel with them.

In a recent interview with the Times of India, the filmmaker said, “I would not want to make a sequel with them.” While fans might be disappointed to hear that, Sooraj shared that he is still very close to both Salman and Madhuri. He explained that even after so many years, Salman has remained simple at heart despite being a huge star.

Barjatya also added that he is open to working with them again, but only if the right script comes along. He said, “If there is a good script with characters that suit them, I would work with Salman and Madhuri.” He believes that at a certain stage in life, the value of a good film outweighs the charm of a star. “After reaching a certain age, you trust a good film more than a star,” he stated.

On the work front, Sooraj Barjatya is all set to start his next project. According to a Pinkvilla, the filmmaker will soon collaborate with Ayushmann Khurrana for a fresh family drama. A source close to the film shared, “Sooraj ji was looking to cast someone who has an image among the family audiences, and who better than Ayushmann Khurrana to play the new-age Prem on the big screen?”

According to several media reports, Sharvari Wagh has been finalized as the female lead. As per the source, “The actress tick-marked all boxes of what the director wanted, specifically the aspect of bringing vulnerability and innocence to this heartfelt romantic film.”

The film will be rooted in Indian values and emotions, much like Sooraj’s earlier works. The shoot will begin in the summer of 2025, and the film is expected to release in theatres in 2026.
