Anupam Kher returns to familiar territory with Sooraj Barjatya’s next featuring Ayushmann and Sharvari

Veteran actor Anupam Kher is once again collaborating with director Sooraj Barjatya for his upcoming romantic comedy, which also stars Ayushmann Khurrana and Sharvari Wagh in lead roles. This untitled project marks Barjatya’s ninth directorial venture and is expected to explore the contrast between nuclear and joint families in contemporary Indian society.

According to sources quoted by Pinkvilla, Anupam Kher will be playing a key character in the film. Kher, who has featured in most of Barjatya’s films, is reportedly thrilled to reunite with the filmmaker. The duo has worked together on numerous family dramas in the past, and this new collaboration continues their long-standing creative partnership.

The film is set to go on floors in November 2025, with a planned shoot schedule of six months. Makers are eyeing a theatrical release in the second half of 2026. The romantic comedy is expected to revolve around the lives of Ayushmann and Sharvari’s characters, with a storyline rooted in modern-day relationship struggles and family expectations. “The core conflict in the film revolves around a modern couple navigating the differences between joint and nuclear family systems. While the primary focus will remain on Ayushmann and Sharvari, the film will also feature a strong ensemble cast,” a source revealed.

Casting for additional roles is currently underway, with the makers looking to bring together a large ensemble that supports the emotional and humorous arcs of the story. The film is being positioned as a blend of traditional Barjatya storytelling with themes that resonate with today’s generation.

On the work front, Ayushmann Khurrana is currently shooting for Thama, which is slated for a Diwali 2025 release. He also has an untitled spy comedy with Karan Johar lined up for 2026. Meanwhile, Sharvari is gearing up for Alpha, her upcoming action film with Alia Bhatt under the YRF Spy Universe, set to release during Christmas 2025.

With this fresh pairing and Sooraj Barjatya’s trademark family drama touch, the upcoming film promises to blend nostalgia with new-age relationship dilemmas.
