Sonu Nigam's Azaan Controversy: High Court's FINAL VERDICT

High Court has given it's final verdict in Sonu Nigam's Azaan Controversy...

The High Court has given its final verdict in Sonu Niigam's "azaan controversy". It has set the singer free from all charges pressed upon him.

The court says that Sonu was never against azaan, he was against loudspeakers.

The Punjab and Haryana high court has said that while Azaan is undoubtedly an integral part of Islam, it does not necessarily have to be blared through loudspeakers.

Following a series of comments on Twitter, Aas Mohammad, a resident of Sonepat in Haryana, had filed a petition against Sonu Nigam. In his plea, he had sought to launch criminal proceedings against the singer. He claimed that Sonu's tweets "violated the Muslim community's fundamental right to manage religious affairs as enshrined in the Constitution, and also hurt the religious sentiments of a section of the population."

A single-judge bench, justice MMS Bedi has termed the petition as a "cheap" attempt to gain publicity and stated: "A fair interpretation of the words used by respondent no 4 (Nigam) clearly indicates that the word 'gundagardi' in tweet no 4 is not addressed in the context of Azaan but the use of loudspeakers and amplifiers."
