Shaktimaan set for big-screen revival; Allu Arjun likely to headline Sony’s superhero film

The long-anticipated film adaptation of India’s iconic superhero Shaktimaan may finally be moving forward — and this time, it’s Allu Arjun who could be seen in the red suit, not Ranveer Singh.

According to a report by Bollywood Bubble, the Pushpa actor is currently in discussions to lead Sony Pictures’ reboot of Shaktimaan, a project that has been in development for several years. The film will reportedly be helmed by Minnal Murali director Basil Joseph, who is known for delivering a grounded superhero story that connected with audiences across India. “The much ambitious Shaktimaan is now to be revived with Allu Arjun. Basil Joseph has been roped in to direct the mega venture. He’s in talks with Allu Arjun to bring the superhero to life. The team wants to honour the nostalgic value of the original series while crafting a high-octane narrative with cutting-edge technology,” a source close to the project told the portal.

There had previously been rumours that Ranveer Singh was being considered for the titular role. However, the latest reports suggest a shift, with the Pushpa star now emerging as the top choice. No official confirmation has been given by Sony Pictures or the actor's team.

Insiders describe the film as a massive pan-India collaboration involving Geetha Arts, two major international studios, and stakeholders from at least four different Indian film industries. This ambitious setup hints at a scale rarely seen in Indian superhero cinema.

Shaktimaan, the beloved 90s television series starring Mukesh Khanna, has a deep emotional connection with Indian audiences. Reviving the character on the big screen comes with high expectations, both creatively and commercially.

Meanwhile, Allu Arjun is also preparing for another high-profile film — a multilingual venture with director Atlee and Deepika Padukone. That film, currently in pre-production, is expected to release in 2027. If finalised, Shaktimaan could mark a new chapter in Indian superhero storytelling, powered by nostalgia, technology, and a star with nationwide appeal.
