A picture featuring Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan, his wife and interior designer Gauri Khan, and their son Aryan Khan has been making waves on social media since New Year’s Day. The image shows the trio at Mecca, reportedly offering prayers. While it has sparked widespread attention, reports reveal the image is not genuine but rather a product of advanced AI tools, like deepfake technology.
In the viral image, Shah Rukh is seen in a white kurta with a solemn expression, while Gauri, dressed in a black kurti and a grey hijab, smiles at him. Aryan, positioned behind Gauri, is also shown wearing a white kurta and looking towards his father. The background features the holy Mecca locales, lending authenticity to the fabricated image. The photo falsely claimed that Gauri Khan had converted to Islam, which is untrue. Gauri has consistently upheld her personal beliefs while respecting Shah Rukh’s faith, as she has clarified in past interviews.

This incident highlights a growing issue in Bollywood and beyond: the misuse of AI technologies to create and spread misinformation.
The deep bond between Shah Rukh and Gauri has been well-documented over the years. Married since 1991, the couple has balanced their interfaith relationship with mutual respect. Gauri once shared on a talk show that while she respects her husband’s religion, she has no intention of converting and believes in individuality and mutual respect for one another's faiths.
Professionally, Shah Rukh is gearing up for his next big release, King, directed by Siddharth Anand, following the massive success of Pathaan. He will be seen sharing screen space with his daughter, Suhana Khan, in the film. Aryan Khan, on the other hand, is stepping into the world of filmmaking with his directorial debut, Stardom. The Netflix series, produced under the family’s Red Chillies Entertainment banner, is set to explore the intricacies of Bollywood and features Bobby Deol and Mona Singh in pivotal roles.
