While there may be a trend that is tilting towards realistic cinema and series now, actress Sayantani Ghosh says that this might be shortlived. The actress, who will be seen in the show Dahej Dassi, adds that conviction on screen is what will bring you a sure-shot hit.

“I think more than realism, this show has honest storytelling, and I feel that works the most. Realistic storylines and shows based on true stories might be the flavour of the month, and this trend may soon fade. But convincing storytelling always does wonders. It's almost two decades that I've been in industry and I've seen a lot of different phases as in the K soaps, reality shows, the evolution of social media. I have seen that the stories that we tell with the most conviction, the work with the audience. There could be a few characters who are very overdramatic, but if you do that, too, with conviction, people will relate to you,” she says.

The show will air on Nazara TV. Talking about working with Do Dooni Char films’ Ravindra Gautam and Raghuvir Shekhawat, she says, “One of the main reasons for associating with this project, of course, was that Nazara TV is an upcoming channel, so I wanted to be a part of that journey. And also, my producers Ravindra Gautam and Raghuvir Shekhawatji are the best. I have worked with Raghu sir in the past, and one of my shows. I hadn't worked with RG sir, but I always wanted to. They both are stalwarts and super talents of our industry. I admire them for their work, and I always wanted to collaborate with such talented minds. I'm extremely happy and blessed for this opportunity. I'm thankful that they thought of me. We've had umpteen reading sessions, our script variations, and the way they are perceiving the story, the scenes, the way they speak to you about a character, about the storytelling, about acting, there's so much to learn.”

Ask her what are her expectations from the show, and she says, “Expectations from the show, of course, are that it does well, but our job is to give 100%. And I think we are all kind of coming together as a team. We are trying to put our best foot forward, and we wish and hope that we kind of come out with flying colours, but beyond that, I think I don't want take pressure. I want to enjoy this process of being part of the show. As of now I am just super excited.”

Meanwhile, the actress adds that the industry has grown by leaps and bounds. “The biggest change is the emergence of social media. A lot of people have been cast based on their social media followers. I don’t really agree with this way of working because I think what is important is whether you are you good actor or not. I think that should be the governing factor. But there are good changes as well, you know. The way stories are being told, the shooting process, there are so many more channels now and so there are more opportunities for work,” she says.
