Salman Khan Cancelled his Wedding in 1994 Despite Cards Being Distributed; Throwback Thursday

The most eligible bachelor of Bollywood, Salman Khan is often quizzed with the question: ‘Bhai ki shaadi kab hogi?’ And well, the superstar was all set to tie the knot in 1994, however, here’s what went wrong…

Salman has played the quintessential lover and husband as ‘Prem’ in many movies. Right from Madhuri Dixit to Kareena Kapoor, the actor has romanced many beautiful ladies on screen. Besides his on-screen love, his off-screen affairs have also made headlines a couple of times. He had an intense relationship with actress Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, who is now happily married to Abhishek Bachchan and has a daughter Aradhya too. Khan is often linked to Katrina Kaif as well, and the duo has shared screen space in a number of films. Currently, the actor is rumoured to be in a relationship with Iulia Vântur.

Apart from his love affairs, Bhaijaan could not find his Mrs.Right and is not ready to tie the wedding knot anytime soon. However, back in 1994, Salman Khan was all set to take the plunge and get married to his then-girlfriend Sangeeta Bijlani.

The Wedding Day

Salman was madly in love with Sangeeta Bijlani and the couple had decided to get married. The actor had planned to get married on 27th May 1994 and interestingly, his dear friend and producer Sajid Nadiadwala too decided to get married on the same day. 

Sajid had made these revelations on the Kapil Sharma Show. He said, “Salman had gotten an attack in 1999 of getting married. He already had a girl, I had to find one for myself. Salman’s father’s birthday is on November 18, so we had decided to tie the knot on the same date.”

And soon, the wedding preparations were on and the invitations were sent off.

Salman Cancelled the Wedding just 5-6 Days before the D Day

While everything was in place and as the wedding dates were nearing, it looks like Salman got cold feet and called the wedding off. “Everything was set, even cards were sent out. Just six or five days before the due date, he said ‘I don’t have the mood” Sajid had revealed.

Reportedly, Sangeeta had caught Salman cheating on her and the wedding was called off.

Salman had confessed the same on Karan Johar’s show Koffee With Karan and had revealed that his marriage was called off after his fiancée had caught him cheating upon her.

Sangeeta Got Married to Mohammed Azharuddin

After the wedding was called off, Sangeeta met cricketer Mohammed Azharuddin and they fell in love. The two got married in 1996. However, their marriage fell apart and they got divorced in 2010.

Meanwhile, Salman Khan and Sangeeta Bijlani are still very good friends and do not let the bitter past affect their present bond.
