Saala Khadoos: Movie Review

Bollywood has seen many sports drama films from 'Lagaan' and 'Iqbal' to 'Bhaag Milka Bhaag' and 'Mary Kom', some worked and some failed to pull the audience to the theaters.

'Saala Khadoos' is one more addition to the above list. The attempt of Sudha Kongara to depict politics and other problems faced by the aspiring players in Indian sports with pinch of love and romance was successful.

Here's what 'Saala Khadoos' has to offer the viewers:

The movie starts with the same old scene used in boxing movies 'a boxer enters, ring fight' and then a flashback!

R. Madhavan, a senior coach of sports association' messes with the association's head for playing politics during the selection process. As a result of that he gets transferred to Chennai, a city where least number of players come up to take part in boxing!

But, here he finds his champion Madhi, played by Ritika Singh. Madhi is a young raging girl who belongs to a fishing community and knows about boxing only by watching videos of legend Mohammad Ali and by watching her elder sister play.

Madhavan decides to train this fiery girl and make her win gold medal in World Championship.

Mumtaz Sorcar plays the role of 'Lux', the elder sister of Madhi who is also a boxer and is taking her training under a coach played by Nassar.

From this point the story takes many twists and turns where Madhavan spends each and every penny from his own pocket to train Madhi. Later on, she falls in love with her Master.

Talking about music, Vishal Dadlani has made sure that his song 'Saala Khadoos' will top the chart buster lists at least for a week. Sunidhi Chauhan's 'Jhalli Patakha' is another to add in the playlist.

The movie is bit predictable and it lacks the energy which is needed to excite and enthrall the audience in a boxing movie. But the innocence and cuteness of Ritika Singh and rugged look with too much of straight forwardness of R. Madhavan covers it up!

Let's get to final round now!

What we liked:

- Madhi aka Ritika Singh's innocence and acting skills.

- R. Madhavan acting as Adi Tomar, coach of Madhi was absolutely fantastic!

- Though in a supporting role, Nassar definitely brings smile on your face in the whole movie.

- The cute love story depicted between a boxer and her coach.

Loopholes:

- As mentioned above it lacks the energy which a boxing movie must have.

- Bit Predictable!

Why to watch:

- For R. Madhavan and Ritika Singh, worth it!

- There is no other "good" movie releasing this weekend.
