Yesterday was the eve of World Mental Health Day and the importance of the same couldn't be more paramount in the times we are living in lately. Be it the pandemic or otherwise, the awareness and need to have a healthy mental status and be open to talking about it is something that everyone needs to understand.

In an exclusive chat with us, we asked actor Ruhi Singh about the phase when she went for auditions and dealing with rejections, the difficulties of being an outsider in the industry and more.

Talking about the earlier days of auditioning, Singh said, "I have actually become very choosy now when it comes to meetings and projects. But initially yes, I did go to several auditions and most of them didn't work out. Here, you have to be ready that 99% of the time, things won't work out but you just need that one project to make it work. Having a strong will power is probably the most important facet an actor has to adapt. You have got to have your own back. Nobody is gonna be with you and you have to be with yourself and that is the truth."

About being an outsider and the difficulties of getting work, she said, "Being an outsider, getting a project - be it anything, a film, a show or such is the most difficult part. Obviously, you are new here and purely on the basis of talent, it is very difficult to get projects and that opportunity. In fact, even now I continue to face the issue for films especially. For an outsider it is indeed difficult. But it doesn't matter as I feel hardwork and talent will eventually reap rewards."

Finally, we asked her if there is anything she would to tell the old her, she said, "Something I would like to tell the old me would be - to not be so hard on myself. I would just like to tell her - have a little fun, love life a little more, don't be so tough and don't be so judgmental on your own self. I have worked very hard but I would just tell my old self to love myself more, to forgive myself more and to live a little more."

Singh has been a part of popular web shows like Spotlight, Bang Bang, Runaway Lugaai among others where she has also been in films like Calendar Girls and Tamil and Telugu film, Bongu and Mosagallu respectively.
