#REVIEW: Shruti Sharma and Abrar Qazi's Gathbandhan FAILS to create a first impact

Shruti Sharma and Abrar Qazi's Gathbandhan try hard to create an impact with a new cast however it fails...

Colors TV has presented another new show, Gathbandhan. The promo suggested that it will be love story of a don hailing from Dombivali and a girl who becomes an IAS officer. Laila Majnu actor Abrar Qazi is all set to make his TV debut with this show and on the other hand, India's Next Superstar fame Shruti Sharma will be playing the female lead in it.

The show went on air since yesterday, January 15 and thus we gave it a watch to know how this show with a completely new ensemble faired.

What is the story?

The episode starts with a marriage setup where a girl is ticking off all the done things. While the father is worried, the girl is taking all the care of the wedding arrangements. She goes to the shop with her mother's saree.

In a community in Dombivali, celebrations are in full swing. Suddenly someone informs the head lady of the community that his son will return today and the time has come. She leaves the celebrations and is all set to welcome him.

Goons snatch the girl's mother's saree and try to molest her. But she walks to them and slowly it is revealed she is Shruti Sharma aka Dhanak. She in her words takes a selfie with the goons and sends them to the police station and in a few moments the police arrive and arrests them. While leaving the goons ask for her forgiveness.

The lady welcomes her son who is seen coming in a boat with hands tied in a handcuff and guarded by police. It is revealed he is Abrar Kazi aka Raghu. The police frees him and the celebrations resume.

Dhanak's sister's would-be-mother-in-law demands gold chains and Mercedes for the marriage. The father seems troubled.

Raghu's mother and others celebrate his return. Raghu's mother gives him a gun and sends him to the person who has sent him to jail for one year.

Dhanak returns home and is stunned by seeing the Mercedes. She tries to convince his dad to change his decision but he is determined. Dhanak leaves for her IPS test.

Raghu goes to threaten the person.

He tries to climb but falls, but climbs again.

Dhanak also starts her test and finally climbs up and wins the test.

Raghu threatens the goon and gets the name who has given the bribe to send Raghu in jail. And it is revealed that he is Dhanak's father.

What's good:

The power-packed performances of the cast are impressive. Shruti and Abrar make an impact since they are revealed. Dialogues are impressive but at some points. The episode seemed colourful. The sharp contrast between Shruti and Abrar's character is well established.

What's bad:

The treatment is extremely old fashioned. While the actor and actress are revealed at the promo we don't understand why Shruti's revelation happened so late. Dialogues seem to leave logic at points. While the goons know that if they say their name they would get in trouble then how come they allow Dhanak to take a selfie. When Dhanak is in charge of the team in the test, she seems to play for her own and not as a team.

The Verdict:

In overall, the show seems to fail to attract us in the first episode. With a very old presentation and a week storyline, the show is full of flaws. The only thing to look forward to is what happens when the duo meets and fall in love.

Talk about a biased review... lol

I would request anyone who has read this article to ignore it and actually give this show a chance. Sure there are moments which make you question the writer's state of mind (e.g. the gun-point marriage, the main leads slapping each other) but that is literally every Indian show, you can't expect everything to be logical.

Apart from that, this show has such a refreshing concept where the leads actually know how to act and have beautiful chemistry together! All the cast are fantastic in their craft and the plotline of weaving through the complications that will arise when a police officer and her husband's don family interact, are worth watching.

Do give it a shot :)

P.S: I found it hilarious that this article mentioned that the show is 'full of flaws' due to its 'week' storyline. Haha. The article seems flawed IMO not only because of its subjective viewpoint, but because of its 'week' grammar.

Aisel- I also have same advice for you, S T F U. I am entitled to my opinion and everyone else as well and have every right to state it. I disliked the male actor and will state out my opinion. I did watch 1st episode and found it crap, never saw such weak looking thin IPS officer. Not looking convincing and realistic at all. and it is MY OPINION. India gives us right to express. we call it as freedom of expression

@IloveJeannie Well, i can give you the same advice.. rather than pointing out fingers on people for their opinion go mind your own business, why bother to comment about a show which you probably didnt even watch and the male actor actually is the best part of the show

PS. If the famous hater and discriminator of IF says it's a crap then it's defo worth watching.. cause he/she never comments about the shows which are actually crap

I agree with you, this show is a complete crap. Rather than pointing out fingers on someone just for her opinion, ask makers to show something new. also the male actor doesn't know how to act, bakwas

The show actually looks quite intriguing and i really liked the cast
This so called critics from IF only can praise and promote Ekta's overrated shitty shows but keep degrading promising shows.. i cant get this partiality

cant understand who bribed the writer or as a matter of fact IF for giving negative review of this show ... Normally IF reviews a show after a week. Here in a day IF understood this show is not good enough? Its fishy indeed.

Lol What a delibreate attempt to write a review and highlight everything as negative. Ms Sreejita Sen it seems you are a staunch Colors Channel hater.

IF and its so called Critics who watch 1st episode and pass on their crap judgment.

Gathbandhan is by far entertaining show with great performance of actors. Storyline is hatke and some liberties can be ignored here and there.

Gathbandhan deserves 3.5 Ratings

Sorry but IF critics are so biased and have myopic view reserved for particular Channel.
