ALT Balaji gave two special gifts to its viewers on this Valentine's day. While one was a completely new storyline, another was the second instalment of the popular first season. We have already shared what we thought about Puncch Beat and now we are all set to share our first impression about Kehne Ko Humsafar Hain 2.
The first instalment of the web series starring Ronit Roy (Rohit), Mona Singh (Ananya) and Gurdeep Kohli (Poonam) created an impact on the audience where an extra-marital affair was shown without portraying the other woman' as a Villain. The highlight was that it didn't glorify infidelity at all instead gave both the lead women equal space to grow as strong characters. The show is back with the second season of love, loyalty and marriage and we present to you a small review of the series.
Story:
The first episode starts from the point where the first season ended. Rohit is currently married to Ananya, but she has left him feeling alone and went to pursue her dreams in Qatar. On the other hand, Poonam who stays with her mother-in-law and younger daughter Niki (Palak Jain) is currently enjoying singlehood post her divorce. Rohit and Poonam's elder daughter Bani (Pooja Banerjee) is currently dealing with her problems in her marriage. Though her husband tries hard to keep her happy it seems that Bani has evolved a lot and her husband is still busy with his football matches. The story kind of gives a feeling that roles have been reversed. However, Ananya is feeling an extreme void and Rohit is still trying to balance family and make Ananya understand all. How they all get through these new odds with new relationship status quo is what the series is all about.
What is Good?
Writer Jaya Mishra doesn't fail to keep the balance of her leading ladies. Both Mona and Gurdeep's characters never indulge in any kind of cat fights yet they both behave maturely in order to keep their dignity on point.
Ananya's stance to discover herself yet longing for her husband's attention is extremely realistic and will connect to every viewer. Gurdeep's character evolution is the cherry on the cake. From a woman pleading her husband for not to leave her to sitting with her sister and enjoying her 'me-time', she kicks off the idea of a damsel in distress and it gives a freshness to the current women empowerment trend.
She giving advice to her ex-husband to pursue his current wife is admirable and Gurdeep outshines in the performance. Dialogues are amazing as they will make you feel alive in those situations. Qatar is well discovered through the lenses in this span of four episodes. The best part is that as always Ekta ensured that her characters are grey like real life. And it gives a breath of fresh air.
What is not-so-good?
While the first season builds an impact since the first go, this season takes too long to unfold. Your attention will be piqued only after the fourth episode where the story starts moving forward. Though it is revealed that Rohit is being insecure of Ananya's boss Harry (Apurva Agnihotri) since the first episode, the development about the same seems unnecessarily dragged. Rohit suddenly becomes a typical husband leaving his character from the past season and he loses the charm. While you will be more interested to see him as a lovelorn husband you will want to loathe him. Even Poonam's encounter with the stranger guy seemed forced. Parth Samthaan and Pooja Banerjee's sequence seemed like a jerk and forcibly placed. Even Cherry and V's conversation amidst Rohit and Ananya's honeymoon is so not needed.
Verdict:
The first season made our expectations reach sky high. But these first four episodes will disappoint you and might hinder you from watching the rest. But being an Ekta Kapoor show one can always expect something new in the upcoming episodes. If you are interested in complex relationships and have watched season one then try it once. However, in the first impression, it failed to bring a big smile to our faces.
