Raveena Tandon Reveals She Was In College When Salman Khan Was Looking For ‘A New Girl’, Recalls How She Bagged Her Debut Film with Salman

Raveena Tandon had no plans of becoming an actress but well, destiny had other plans and for the good. Raveena made her big Bollywood debut in the 1991 film 'Patthar Ke Phool' opposite Salman Khan. 

In a recent interaction with actress Kiran Joneja on her online chat show Insider Talk, Raveena recalled how she bagged her debut film. She shared: "I never wanted to become an actor, but when destiny wants something to happen it all happens simultaneously, so after finishing my 10th exams I did an internship with Prahlad Kakkar, also I had done a few modelling projects before that, when I was interning with Prahlad Kakkar people used to ask me what was I doing behind the cameras and why was I not acting in front of the cameras. Also, Prahlad used to ask me to model whenever a model didn't turn up for the shoot on time! But those days were really fun. I truly enjoyed my internship days."

Raveena recalls the day when she met Salman Khan through a mutual friend and how she bagged Patthar Ke Phool. She said: "One day I was in one of the studios in Bandra and my friend Bunty, who was a filmmaker I knew because I had done a few advertisements with him, asked if I was in Bandra. I said yes. To that he said, ‘come outside, Salman (Khan) and I are passing by, just say hi to us'."

The actress adds that at that time, Salman was looking for a new heroine for the film produced by late GP Sippy. And that’s how she bagged her debut film in 1991. "I remember my friends were more excited that my co-actor is Salman Khan and they encouraged me to go ahead. So, that was how my journey of being a film actress began," Raveena recalled.

It’s been close to 30 years for Raveena in the showbiz and she has entertained the audience with a variety of films and characters throughout her journey. After a small gap, she is making her comeback and will be next seen in KGF: Chapter 2, starring Kannada superstar Yash and Sanjay Dutt.
