One of the most highly anticipated films in Bollywood, Ramayana, starring Ranbir Kapoor and Sai Pallavi, is creating massive excitement among audiences. The film, based on the timeless epic, promises to be a visual spectacle, with high expectations surrounding its release. In addition to the grandeur and scale, the makers are ensuring the film has a broad, global appeal. Recently, producer Namit Malhotra revealed plans to “localize” the film in different languages while maintaining the authenticity of its characters.
Speaking at the WAVES Summit 2025, Namit Malhotra provided insights into how the team is working to make this epic mythological tale feel relevant and accessible to people worldwide. "This is a story from India, but we want to tell it to the world," said Malhotra, expressing his vision for a global audience. He explained that the team aims to use technology to enhance the cultural authenticity of the story and characters, ensuring it resonates with viewers across different regions and languages.
Malhotra further shared that the film would be localized in various languages with lip-sync performances. The goal is to create versions of the film in languages like English, Spanish, and Japanese, where viewers can watch without subtitles or dubbed versions. “We want to make it feel local to the people, regardless of the language they speak,” he added. The technological advances in dubbing and voice synchronization are expected to bring the project closer to the world, enabling a seamless cinematic experience.
The producer also acknowledged that language remains a challenge for international reach, as many films from the West dominate global screens. He noted, “The biggest challenge for me is overcoming the language barrier, as only a few South films work in the North, and vice versa.” However, Malhotra is confident that strong content will overcome these hurdles, allowing the film to connect with diverse audiences.
Directed by Nitesh Tiwari, Ramayana features an ensemble cast with Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Rama, Sai Pallavi as Sita, Ravi Dubey as Lakshman, Yash as Ravana, and Sunny Deol as Lord Hanuman. The first two parts of the film are slated for release on Diwali 2026 and 2027. The team’s efforts to make the film a truly global experience are set to redefine how Indian cinema reaches the world.
