Ranbir Kapoor opens up about embracing a challenging role in Sandeep Reddy Vanga's Animal

Ranbir Kapoor's action drama Animal made a significant impact at the box office in 2023, showcasing his portrayal of Ranvijay, a character marked by violence and aggression—quite a departure from his previous roles. Recently, Ranbir opened up about his initial reaction upon hearing the narration of his character in Sandeep Reddy Vanga's film. He admitted that while he felt disconnected from the character, he was eager to be part of the project.

In a recent conversation at the Red Sea International Film Festival 2024, Ranbir was asked about his criteria for selecting scripts and filmmakers. He emphasized the importance of a director presenting a "unique story," after which he trusts his instincts. Reflecting on Animal, he remarked, “You hear a part that is so far removed from who you are, like Animal, for example.” He recalled thinking, “When I heard the part, I was like, ‘Okay, I’m not this person, but I would love to be a part of this world.’” This role challenged him as an actor, and he acknowledged that he might not have taken it on without Vanga's direction. He concluded by stating, “As an actor, it’s crucial to keep reinventing yourself and surprising yourself.”

Animal also features a talented cast including Rashmika Mandanna, Anil Kapoor, Bobby Deol, Triptii Dimri, Shakti Kapoor, Prem Chopra, and Saurabh Sachdeva.

Looking ahead, Ranbir has an exciting slate of projects. He is set to portray Lord Ram in Nitesh Tiwari's epic adaptation of the Ramayana. Additionally, he is currently filming Love & War alongside his wife Alia Bhatt and Vicky Kaushal, marking a reunion with director Sanjay Leela Bhansali after several years.

Moreover, Pinkvilla recently reported that Ranbir has been cast in Dhoom 4, a reboot of the popular franchise. He is also involved in Animal Park, the sequel to Animal, along with upcoming installments in Ayan Mukerji’s Astraverse series.
