Rajkumar Hirani and Shah Rukh Khan

In a recent conversation with a news portal, renowned filmmaker Rajkumar Hirani shared insights into his decision to collaborate with Shah Rukh Khan for their latest film, 'Dunki.' The director, known for his exceptional storytelling, expressed his admiration for Shah Rukh Khan's charisma and revealed the journey that led to their long-awaited collaboration.

Hirani reminisced about his film school days, highlighting the challenges filmmakers face in bringing their vision to the big screen. He recalled a pivotal moment while watching the series 'Circus' in the common room, where an unknown actor, later identified as Shah Rukh Khan, left a lasting impression with his performance and monologue. The filmmaker made a silent vow to work with this talented actor once he graduated.

However, the path to collaboration was not straightforward. By the time Hirani completed his film institute education, Shah Rukh Khan had become a mega-star, making the dream of working together seem like a distant reality. It took nearly two decades for the filmmaker's aspiration to materialize, with 'Dunki' marking their first joint venture.

Discussing his experience working with Shah Rukh Khan, Hirani expressed being enamored by the actor's charm. Quoting ti News 18 he said, “I was enamoured by his charm. I would put on an eye mask and earplugs when he was giving a shot. Once he finished, my assistant would tell me ‘Sir shot khatam ho gaya hai (Sir the shot is over),’ and then I would open my eyes (laughs). Jokes apart, he is an amazing actor and an even better person.”

As 'Dunki' hit the theaters on December 21, it faced a mixed reception from both audiences and critics. The film, presented by JIO Studios, Red Chillies Entertainment, and Rajkumar Hirani Films, garnered ₹49.7 crore within the first two days of its release.
