The meeting was conducted and consisted members from Balaji Production, The Film and TV Producers bodies & FWICO and also some famous producers like Shashi Sumeet, Rajan Shahi, J D Majethia and Asit Modi.
The actual incident that had happened was -
Six representatives of the FSS and AMU (Allied Mazdoor Union) committee reached the Balaji set of Klick Nixon at Powai, Mumbai at 10pm. They ordered the unit's members to stop shooting and tried to disrupt the shoot. When a production executive stood up to them and questioned their actions, all six of them started beating him mercilessly. The committee members of the FSS & AMU filed a complaint with the Powai police station and falsely accused the Balaji production members of initiating the attack and got them arrested. The Honorable General Secretary of the FWICO (Federation of Western India Cine Employees), Mr. Dilip Pithwa reached the spot at the same time and verified the above facts after speaking to all the parties involved.
When spoken to Producer JD Majethia of famous daily soaps like Baa Bahu Aur Baby, Ek Doosre Se Karte Hai Pyaar Hum and more to which he said, "Next morning I had been there personally and I tried to reason it out with them. I spoke to all the workers and told them by not shooting it is just going to be a drawback for our television industry. If we, the producers will have money, only then we can give it to our workers."
We also spoke to the Producers of Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai and Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah who has their sets in Film City, Rajan Shahi said, "That day we were shooting at Film City. We had a huge combination of artists and junior artists. There was a huge expense that day. And morning we had two units at Film City and we were told that Allied Mazdoor Union (AMU) workers came and they called all the workers out and said that there will be no shooting. This caught us by surprise that if supposedly there is a problem between AMU and some other production house which also should be fair enough and has to go through a forum, it has to go to a committee to decide who is right and who is wrong. Even if there was a problem, why is it that the entire unit is been penalized. It is the condimental question as producers. We are living in a democracy and not in a jungle. For every dispute, every problem, this is an industry where there are committees and platforms to decide if you want to solve it. So why do you enter anybody's set without notice and stop the shoot. So that is what I hope as producers we get the answers."
When asked Mr. Asit Modi, the producer of Taarak Mehta who has an ensemble cast in his show about what kind of difficulties did he face when the shooting was stalled? He says, "It is not just about me. Every producer and every team have suffered loss. And in our show we do not have a bank of episodes. We are doing it cut-to-cut.so because of the shooting coming to a standstill, the episode on the next day may not even go on air. And if episodes do not go on air, then advertisers are on a loss. This is absolutely wrong and they should not do such things."
With all said, we wish that more producers and media could have turned up for something that is this good to our industry.
