Mumbai, May 27 (IANS) Bollywood actor Parvin Dabas, who is known for his role in films like 'Maine Gandhi Ko Nahin Mara' and 'Khosla Ka Ghosla', has turned director with a film called 'Sahi Dhandhe Galat Bande'.

The 36-year-old has also written the script for the film.

'It's not like I woke up one day and decided to write and direct. The writing part happened first. I got a few ideas and started writing,' Parvin told IANS in an interview.

'My first aim was production and not direction. Direction happened when after writing the script, I realised that nobody except me would be the right person to direct it. I knew exactly how I wanted to treat it. I was very excited doing that,' he added.

The film that has been produced by his actress wife Preeti Jhangiani, under their banner Very Fishy Films Production, is slated to hit the screens Aug 19 this year.

Although Parvin is acting in the film, Preeti focused on production work.

When asked about her decision not to face the camera, Parvin said: 'First of all, we were not making this film to push ourselves as actors. We had decided that our production house will make exciting entertaining cinema, so in the first one we didn't want that feeling to come across that we are making a film for ourselves. That was a conscious decision.'

Giving a sneak peak into the subject of the film, Parvin said: 'The backdrop is both urban and rural. It is both in a city and also in a village close to that city. The story is something based on certain things that are very relevant today. I can't reveal that just yet.'

'But I believe it's an entertaining film with a message, but it's not preachy at all. We have tried to make a very entertaining film because that's what is important at the end of the day. It's an action comedy but also has a lot of emotion,' he added.

The film, apart from Anupam Kher and Parvin himself, stars relative newcomers like Sharat Saxena, Vansh Bhardwaj and Ashish Nayyar.

'New guys always bring a certain energy to the set and these guys perfectly fitted the roles. I did long auditions, and auditioned a lot of people, before I chose these guys. I'm very happy with the kind of work they have done,' said the actor.

But doesn't he feel that a star in the film grabs more eyeballs and help in the promotions of a film?

'I agree if you have a big star, then obviously it will attract a large number of eyeballs and it's tougher when you have a newer cast. But nowadays people are open to watching new films with a new star cast. We are not in an era when people are not closed to that idea. So, we are in a space where the content, script and the overall film sells other than just the star,' he said.
