Yesteryear Bollywood diva Mumtaz, who ruled the silver screen during the 60s and 70s, is once again making headlines. Known for her charm, talent, and powerful screen presence, Mumtaz had once appeared in more than ten films in a single year. But by the end of the 1970s, she quietly stepped away from the limelight. Now, decades later, she’s back in the spotlight — this time through social media, where she recently opened up about her possible comeback to films.
In a candid conversation with Instant Bollywood, Mumtaz, a 77-year-old diva, made it very clear that she’s not interested in playing old or stereotypical roles just because of her age. She said firmly, “Main filmo mein abhi… dekhiye, main buddhi-wuddhi ka role karne wali hoon nahi. Aur jaisi main lagti hoon, waisa role offer hua nahi hain. Jab hoga tab sochungi.” Her confident words show that she still wants roles that match her personality and appearance.
Mumtaz also shared what kind of offers she has been getting and what she’s actually looking for. “Mujhe waise offer nahi aaye jaise mujhe chahiye, main kisi ki maa ka role karne wali nahi hoon,” she added with a laugh, followed by flying kisses to her fans. This playful yet straightforward attitude impressed many netizens who appreciated her boldness and clarity.

Mumtaz was last seen in a cameo in the 2010 docudrama 1 a Minute. Before that, she acted in Aandhiyan in 1990 after a long break following her 1976 hit Naagin.
It’s clear that if and when Mumtaz returns, it won’t be for just any role — it will be one that truly matches her grace and legacy.
