Michelle Obama's Top Secret Documentary To Drop on Netflix on 6th May

Finally, the much-kept secret deal surrounding the Obamas, Barrack and Michelle finally seems to come into fruition. A documentary feature about Michelle Obama — the existence of which has been kept top-secret for months — will be made available worldwide on Netflix on May 6.

Becoming, like reigning best documentary feature Oscar winner American Factory, originated from Higher Ground, the production company run by former President Barack Obama and the former First Lady, which has an exclusive pact with Netflix.

The doc, which marks the feature directorial debut of cinematographer Nadia Hallgren (Trouble the Water), shares the name of the former First Lady's bestselling 2018 memoir, and recounts some of the same history of her life. But it also picks up where that story left off by following her on a 34-city tour that she undertook while promoting her book.

"Those months I spent traveling — meeting and connecting with people in cities across the globe — drove home the idea that what we share in common is deep and real and can’t be messed with," the former First Lady said in a statement. "In groups large and small, young and old, unique and united, we came together and shared stories, filling those spaces with our joys, worries, and dreams. We processed the past and imagined a better future. In talking about the idea of 'becoming,' many of us dared to say our hopes out loud."

She continued, "As many of you know, I'm a hugger. My whole life, I've seen it as the most natural and equalizing gesture one human can make toward another — the easiest way of saying, 'I’m here for you.' And this is one of the toughest parts of our new reality: Things that once felt simple — going to see a friend, sitting with someone who is hurting, embracing someone new — are now not simple at all."

She closed, "I love and miss you all."
