Anurag Basu's star-studded romantic musical drama, despite mixed reviews, is performing well at the box office. Industry tracker Sacnilk estimates that the film made Rs 7.25 crore on day 3, for a total net box office collection of Rs 16.75 crore. The weekend and positive feedback have helped boost earnings, with Rs 6 crore earned on Saturday. The film has also surpassed the total net collection of its first installment, Life In A Metro (2007), starring the late actor Irrfan.
The film saw a 39.75% Hindi occupancy across theaters on its first Sunday, with morning shows at 15.98%, afternoon shows at 46.62%, evening shows at 57.14%, and night shows at 39.27%. Chennai had the highest theater occupancy at 78.50%. The first film, Life In A Metro, earned a total net collection of Rs 15.63 crore and a worldwide gross collection of Rs 24.15 crore.
A part of review from India Forums reads, "Unlike many hyperlink films where the interconnections feel forced, Basu's world makes them feel like destiny. A shared terrace, a friend's wedding, a city's coincidence, people walk in and out of each other's lives just like real metros. Sometimes they bump into each other. Sometimes they leave a mark. That's where Basu's direction shines, he keeps it subtle, not screaming Look! We connected them!"
"Even the cameos, from known directors, feel like surprises sprinkled throughout. They don't steal the show; they sweeten it. At first glance, Metro... In Dino may seem like it's talking about the "now" situationships, Tinder, job switches, long distance, sex in the open. But dig deeper, and it becomes clear: nothing is new. Just the vocabulary has changed. The core emotions, loneliness, desire, guilt, fear, joy are timeless. Whether it's commitment phobia or extramarital temptations, the film doesn't preach. It presents. And that's why it stays."
Anurag Basu's film features Sara Ali Khan and Aditya Roy Kapur, along with Anupam Kher, Neena Gupta, Konkona Sen Sharma, Pankaj Tripathi, Ali Fazal, Fatima Sana Shaikh, Saswata Chatterjee, Darshana Bainik, Kush Jotwani, and Rohan Gurbaxani.
