Manoj Bajpayee: This question annoys me; When asked about the Importance of BO Collections!

Manoj Bajpayee is one of the most versatile actors who has been offering critically acclaimed films since 2 decades now. He recently won the Asia Pacific Screen Award for Best Performance for Bhonsle. 

And, with this commendable achievement, he becomes the only Indian actor to achieve this honour twice. He won this award for the first time in Aligarh in 2016.

His undisputed hunger for quality content has landed him in a spot that proves the mastery of his art. While a section of actors focuses on box-office numbers he is one of the few who is always irked when asked about box-office collections.

He stands adamant with a staunch vision to prove himself that, “Not everything is about box office.”

Those associated with this film don’t think about the box office that much. This question annoys me because our job is to create a story which is engaging, informing, and prompts people to ask questions. I am sure people who go to the theatre for Bhonsle will love it.

During his interaction with Hindustan Times, the actor was quizzed about the value these awards hold for and actor; to which he said:

They do matter if they are increasing your value or credibility or adding value to the film. In Bhonsle’s and my case, it has done wonders. Check social media. So much buzz has been generated, and congratulatory messages are going around. It seems that people are aware of the film. They are happy and proud that an Indian film has won on such a big stage.

Bajpayee holds his supremacy in both commercial films as well as feature films which makes him the most bankable star of the century. Bhonsale has went on to receive Three nominations - that in itself gave me a sense of achievement to the Aligarh actor.
