In a recent press interaction in Dubai for her upcoming Pakistani film Love Guru, Mahira Khan, best known to Indian audiences for her role opposite Shah Rukh Khan in Raees (2017) chose to shift the spotlight away from her Bollywood past. While fans in India still remember her as the soft-spoken beauty who shared screen space with King Khan, Mahira made it clear that she now prefers to talk about her present work.
When a journalist brought up her experience working with Shah Rukh Khan and praised the visuals of Love Guru, Mahira responded with a diplomatic smile, saying, “Woh toh bahaut puraani baat hai.” Without directly naming SRK or Raees, she gently brushed past the question and instead highlighted The Legend of Maula Jatt. “I think we are improving day by day,” she added, pointing out that Pakistani cinema is standing strong in terms of technology and storytelling.
Mahira’s cautious response comes at a delicate time. Political tensions between India and Pakistan have escalated after the tragic Pahalgam attack and the launch of Operation Sindoor. As a result, Pakistani artists have once again found themselves caught in the crossfire. Several actors and filmmakers from across the border have faced bans and even had their social media accounts restricted in India. These developments have added pressure on celebrities like Mahira, who must now navigate interviews with extra sensitivity.
Interestingly, Mahira had already addressed this topic in an earlier interview in December 2024, where she admitted that constantly being asked about Shah Rukh Khan puts her in a tough spot. “I can never have enough of him,” she had said warmly, “but when I reply, people say I’m obsessed. If I stay silent, they say I’m rude.”
Back in 2017, Raees had opened to strong box office numbers in India and was praised for its gripping narrative and Mahira’s understated performance.
