Junaid Khan and Khushi Kapoor’s debut theatrical film, Loveyapa, continues to face a tough time at the box office. On its fifth day, the romantic drama managed to collect approximately Rs 0.50 crore in India, bringing its total earnings to Rs 5.60 crore. After a slow start, the film saw some growth over the weekend, but the sharp decline on Monday signaled trouble. Since then, the downward trend has continued, making it clear that the movie is struggling to find an audience.
While Loveyapa has not performed as expected, it is also facing stiff competition from Himesh Reshammiya’s action-packed Badass Ravikumar. Despite receiving mixed reviews, Badass Ravikumar is inching closer to the Rs 10 crore mark, performing slightly better than Loveyapa. Both films, however, are seeing a rapid decline in numbers and now have an even tougher challenge ahead as new releases enter the scene.
One major reason Loveyapa is failing to bring in audiences is its weak word-of-mouth. Even with two star kids—Junaid Khan, son of Aamir Khan, and Khushi Kapoor, daughter of Sridevi and Boney Kapoor—the film has failed to generate excitement. Both actors previously made their debuts on OTT platforms, with Junaid starring in Maharaj and Khushi in The Archies. However, their first big-screen outing hasn’t made a strong impression.
Adding to its woes, older films are stealing its audience. The re-release of Sanam Teri Kasam has drawn in a wave of nostalgia-driven viewers. The 2016 romantic drama has always had a cult following, and fans are showing up in large numbers for its special screenings. Meanwhile, Christopher Nolan’s Interstellar has also returned to theaters, attracting cinema lovers who prefer the visual spectacle of a sci-fi epic over new Bollywood releases that lack impact. In fact, both of these re-releases have been earning more than Loveyapa and Badass Ravikumar, highlighting the weak state of current theatrical releases.
Viewers are becoming increasingly selective, preferring quality content over star-driven projects. The success of re-releases like Sanam Teri Kasam and Interstellar proves that people are willing to revisit old favorites instead of watching uninspiring new films.
