Kim Kardashian is scheduled to testify in a Paris court today regarding a 2016 robbery case, where she was held at gunpoint and lost millions in jewelry. The TV personality will share her experience of the frightening incident that happened in a high-end suite during Paris Fashion Week.
During the robbery, jewelry worth millions was taken, including a $4 million engagement ring from her then-husband, Kanye West. The 44-year-old actress and entrepreneur will recount the events in court this afternoon.
In a trial nearly seven years after the incident, ten people are facing charges for their roles in the crime. The defendants, some of whom are elderly and dealing with significant health problems, are accused of crimes related to the robbery. During the trial, witness Abderrahmane Ouatiki, a night receptionist at the Hotel de Pourtalès, described the chaos of that night, stating Kardashian was "completely hysterical" and in "a state of complete terror" as the robbers aimed a gun at her.
The group of men allegedly entered the suite and took multiple items valued at $9 million. Despite the stolen jewels never being found, authorities believe they were sold after being dismantled. The suspects were apprehended several months later.
Contrary to the media's depiction of the suspects as "hapless elderly burglars," prosecutors have highlighted the organized nature of the crime. The thieves utilized burner phones and a vehicle parked near the crime scene. They also took steps to restrain Kardashian and ensure the robbery was carried out discreetly.
Kardashian's experience was terrifying. In a 2020 interview, she revealed her fear of being assaulted during the incident. "I was like, ‘Okay, this is the time I’m going to get raped,'" she recalled.
Ouatiki, who acted as an interpreter for the burglars, described the scene as deeply frightening. He later shared that he felt immense pressure and distress due to speculation about his involvement, which led to him losing his student status and returning to Algeria. “It was a catastrophe, my life fell apart," he said.
As the trial continues, Kardashian’s testimony is expected to attract significant media attention. Her public comeback as a witness offers her the opportunity to reclaim her narrative after a traumatic event that captured global headlines. "In 2016 she was the punchline. But in 2025 testifying is going to turn her into the narrator," said celebrity expert Jeetendr Sehdev. Her testimony could mark a turning point in her public image.
