Karan Johar in trouble? All support gone; Loses out on big deals: Source spills the beans

Karan Johar has been making headlines for a long time now. After sacking Kartik Aaryan from his film Dostana 2, the filmmaker has been receiving backlash from the actor's fans and is being blamed yet again for favoring and promoting nepotism in the Hindi film industry.

Now, KJo is yet again in news but this time for losing out on a major deal!

As per reports in Bollywood Hungama, Lyca Productions, one of the biggest productions down South has cancelled it's collaboration with Karan Johar's production house Dharma Productions.

After years of association with Fox Star Studios and collaborating on multiple projects together, the two production houses had to part ways since Fox group was taken over by Walt Disney and the latter decided to stop green-lighting new films in India.

After this separation, Karan was looking for a studio to partner and that’s when he began talks with team Lyca and cracked it's first collaboration, Rajnikanth-Akshay Kumar starrer 2.0 (2018). Directed by Shankar, this sci-fi biggie was presented in the Hindi market by Dharma Productions.

Back in October 2020, news about Lyca Productions entering enter Bollywood to produce Hindi language films spread like a wild fire and then in the same year in the month of December it was confirmed that Karan's home banner Dharma Productions will be collaborating with Lyca for all their next projects.

But now, if latest reports are to be believed, unfortunately, this collaboration is no no more. The deal between Dharma and Lyca has fallen through.

A close source has been quoted by Bollywood Hungama,

“Lyca Productions has backed out of the deal with Dharma Productions. No one exactly knows the reason behind it as only the top honchos were involved in all the discussions. But the deal is not happening.”

The report further states that, earlier in January 2021 Karan Johar was in talks with Gautam Adani’s Adani Group to sell 30% stake of Dharma Productions. But after advanced talks, there have been no word on the outcome of the negotiations. “The talks did happen but there has been no update on it,” said the source.

An industry insider has been quoted by the portal saying,

“Karan Johar at least has Fox-Disney’s backing for Brahmastra, which will be their last film in Bollywood. But for Karan’s upcoming films like Shershaah, Dostana 2, Jug Jugg Jeeyo, Liger, Shakun Batra’s next and Shashank Khaitan’s next, he’ll require the support of some studio. It remains to be seen who comes on board.”

However, it’s not a crisis situation at Dharma at all. The insider reveals,

“Karan Johar is one of the most successful filmmakers at present. Most of his films work big time. I am sure he’ll soon get a partner and that’ll ease his woes to a great extent.”
